An intake/exhaust valve seal structure for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. A sealing surface is formed by a valve seat surface in a ceiling of a combustion chamber and a valve face surface provided on an intake/exhaust valve. The sealing surface lies on a first conical surface having an axis of the intake/exhaust valve as its rotation axis and includes a line of intersection of the first conical surface with an inner wall face of the ceiling of the combustion chamber. A method for manufacturing the intake/exhaust valve is also disclosed.

Intake/exhaust valve and its seal for internal combustion engine

A valve-operating mechanism for an internal combustion engine having intake and exhaust valves and valve control members for controlling the intake and exhaust valves. The intake and exhaust valves are configured as dual valves having an outer valve and an inner valve. The valve control members, at least during scavenging, simultaneously close the outer valves of the intake and exhaust valves, producing a non-overlapping state, and simultaneously open the inner valves of the intake and exhaust valves, producing an overlapping state.

Valve-operating mechanism for internal combustion engine

No-load valve lift correction curves of opening and closing cams are set by offsetting no-load curve sections of basic valve lift curves of the cams in such directions as to increase a clearance between the curves, and they are connected with remaining sections of the curves to provide normal valve lift curves of the cams. Cam profiles of the cams are set on the basis of such normal valve lift curves. The cam profiles are set so that an ultimate speed difference between jumping and landing speeds of a follower on an ultimate valve speed curve determined from ultimate valve lift curves, having first and second shift sections where the follower shifts from the opening cam to the closing cam and from the closing cam to the opening cam, is smaller than a basic speed difference between jumping and landing speeds on a basic valve speed curve.

The wheel mechanism includes a sun gear, planetary gears, pivotable arms swung by the planetary gears, and weights mounted on the pivotable arms. A hybrid vehicle is equipped with an internal combustion engine, a motor/generator, and a Rankine cycle system for recovering thermal energy of exhaust gas. The output of the Rankine cycle system is input into a transmission or, alternatively, converted into electric power and used for charging a battery. The Rankine cycle system has temperature setter that sets the temperature of steam at the outlet of an evaporator. A pressure setter is provided for setting steam pressure at the inlet of an expander. A pressure controller is provided for controlling the steam pressure at the inlet of the expander. The evaporator generates steam to be supplied at a pressure that is optimum for the expansion ratio of the expander. The Rankine cycle system is operated when the vehicle is accelerating or cruising and efficiently recovers thermal energy of the exhaust gas and reduces the fuel consumption of the internal combustion engine.

A connecting rod of an internal combustion engine, and an internal combustion engine including the connecting rod, a piston, a crankshaft and a float bearing as main moving parts. A piston is connected to a connecting rod by a spherical joint and has radial ribs on a rear face of a crown part; a connecting rod is of an integrated, one-piece type having integrally a spherical small end part to be connected to the piston and an annular big end part; the crankshaft is of an assembly type, and a float bearing is interposed between the big end part and a crank pin.

A heat exchange system is provided that includes an evaporator () that carries out heat exchange between exhaust gas discharged from an exhaust port (B) and water, exhaust gas passages () on the upstream side in the direction of flow of the exhaust gas being disposed on the radially inner side, an exhaust gas passage () on the downstream side being disposed on the radially outer side, and an oxygen concentration sensor cooling portion () for cooling a mounting section of an oxygen concentration sensor () facing the exhaust gas passage () on the most upstream side being positioned on the radially outer side of the exhaust gas passage (). Water is supplied separately to a water passage (W) of the evaporator () and a water passage (W) of the oxygen concentration sensor cooling portion (), and the water passage (W) of the evaporator () is arranged so that the direction of flow of the water is opposite to the direction of flow of the exhaust gas. It is thereby possible to improve the waste heat recovery efficiency of the evaporator () that carries out heat exchange between the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine and water and, in particular, to minimize the escape of heat via the oxygen concentration sensor () for detecting the condition of the exhaust gas.

Heat exchange device

A cooling block forming a top wall of a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine is formed by layering, from the outside to the inside, a casing, an upper layer block, a middle layer block, and a lower layer block. Labyrinth-shaped cooling water passages are formed on upper side faces of the three layers of blocks, and cooling water supplied from a cooling water supply passage flows from the cooling water passage on the side far from the combustion chamber to the cooling water passage on the side close to the combustion chamber, and is discharged from a cooling water discharge passage. Since the cooling water flows in a direction opposite to the direction of emission of heat of combustion from the combustion chamber, it is possible to ensure that there is sufficient difference in temperature between a cylinder head and the cooling water throughout the cooling water passages.

A coupling structure for coupling a piston and a connecting rod has a protrusion formed on the rear surface of the crown of the piston and having a semi-spherical concavity and a threaded portion concentric to the concavity, a substantially spherical small end formed at one end of the connecting rod, a holder holding the spherical small end of the connecting rod slidably in the semi-spherical concavity of the protrusion and a fixing ring having a threaded portion engaging with the threaded portion of the protrusion for securing the holder to the protrusion of the piston.

Spherical coupling structure between a piston and a connecting rod

This invention relates to a cooling structure for cooling a cylinder liner by circulating coolant in a water jacket formed along an outer periphery of the cylinder liner. This cooling structure includes an annular first water reservoir for temporarily storing coolant. This first water reservoir allows the coolant to uniformly flow circumferentially of the cylinder liner. The cooling structure also includes a plurality of coolant passages provided radially for connecting the first water reservoir to the water jacket. The coolant is caused to strike a part of a wall defining the water jacket substantially vertically from the radial coolant passages, thereby to generate turbulent flow in the coolant to efficiently cool the cylinder liner.

Cylinder liner cooling structure

A rotary fluid machine is provided in which a rotating shaft () fixed to a rotor () is rotatably supported on a fixed shaft () fixed to a casing (), sliding surfaces of the fixed shaft () and the rotating shaft () are lubricated by a first pressurized liquid-phase working medium, and sliding surfaces of the rotor () and a vane () are lubricated by a second pressurized liquid-phase working medium. By setting the pressure of the first pressurized liquid-phase working medium, which is supplied from an eleventh water passage (W), comparatively low and setting the pressure of the second pressurized liquid-phase working medium, which is supplied from a first water passage (W), comparatively high, wasteful leakage of the liquid-phase working medium past the sliding surfaces of the fixed shaft () and the rotating shaft (), where a comparatively small load is applied, can be prevented while enabling the sliding surfaces of the rotor () and the vane (), where a large load is applied, to be reliably lubricated with a high pressure liquid-phase working medium.

Rotary fluid machine

A piston for an internal combustion engine includes a crown, tubular walls extending from the edge of the crown, and a cup portion protruding from the rear surface of the crown and having a concave spherical surface for forming a spherical joint with a spherical small end on a connecting rod. The tubular walls and the cup portion are joined together by radially extending ribs.

Piston for an internal combustion engine

A rotating fluid machine is provided with a rotor chamber, a rotor accommodated in the rotor chamber, and vanes guided by vane grooves formed in the rotor. A U-shaped vane seal is held by a seal holding groove formed in the end face of each of the vanes. The opposite ends of the vane seal are fitted into slits in seal ancillary members which are fitted into engaging holes formed in the end faces of each of the vanes. The seal ancillary members are pressed by springs toward the inner circumferential face of the rotor chamber. The pressure of a gaseous phase working medium introduced into the bottom parts of the seal holding grooves is restrained from leaking out of the ends of the vane seal by the seal ancillary members. Thus, sealing performance can be secured by pressing the vane seal against the inner circumferential face of the rotor chamber.

Rotating fluid machine

An internal combustion engine is provided in which an exhaust port communicating with a combustion chamber formed in a cylinder head is formed from independent exhaust ports, which are positioned on the upstream side, and a grouped exhaust port, in which the plurality of independent exhaust ports are combined. Water supplied from a supply pump passes through a water passage of the grouped exhaust port and a water passage of the independent exhaust ports while cooling the exhaust port, and a valve seat and valve guide on the periphery of the exhaust port, which have high temperatures, thus heating the water itself and thereby recovering waste heat of the internal combustion engine. The heated water carries out heat exchange with exhaust gas in an evaporator provided in an exhaust passage and turns into high temperature, high pressure steam, which drives an expander of a Rankine cycle system. It is thereby possible to maximize the recovery of heat transferred from the exhaust port to the cylinder head of the internal combustion engine.

First heat exchangers (HHH) are disposed within an exhaust port (), within a pre-catalytic device (), and on the downstream of a main catalytic device (); the exhaust port (), the pre-catalytic device (), and the main catalytic device () being provided in each exhaust passage () of a multicylinder internal combustion engine. These first heat exchangers (HHH) are independently provided for each of the exhaust passages (), and a second heat exchanger (H) is disposed in a section where these exhaust passages () are combined. Since the first heat exchangers (HHH) are disposed on the upstream side of the exhaust passage (), high heat exchange efficiency can be obtained by high temperature exhaust gas, and, moreover, the occurrence of exhaust interference can be avoided, thereby preventing any decrease in the output of the internal combustion engine.
