A porous ceramic structure suitable for use as a filter for molten metal, in which a porous ceramic body having pores capable of passing a fluid therethrough is covered with a metal layer over the wall surface of the pores such that a fluid may flow through the pores while in contact with the metal layer. The filtering efficiency can be improved due to the increased wettability between the ceramic filter and the molten metal.

Porous ceramic structure and method of filtering aluminum

Described herein is a porous ceramic structure consisting of a ceramic roll core or an assembly of ceramic roll cores each comprising: consecutively aligned pairs of inclined cylindrical cell units of oblique figure '8' shape, each cylindrical cell unit having a width of 5-30 mm, a height of 10-100 mm and an angle of inclination of 20-70 degrees.

Porous ceramic structure

A gas-permeable thermal insulator comprising a porous ceramic body of a three-dimensional reticulate structure having interconnected open cells is adapted to be installed in a heating oven or radiant tube so that exhaust gas passes through the insulator to exit the oven or tube while the waste heat of the gas is effectively recovered for reuse. The porous ceramic body is characterized by a bulk specific gravity of 0.25-0.6, an average pore diameter of 0.2-10 mm, a porosity of 75-95%, and an air pressure drop of 0.1-40 mm in water column when air passes through the body over a thickness of 1 cm at a velocity of 1 m/sec.

Gas-permeable thermal insulator

A porous ceramic article comprising a porous ceramic body having a three-dimensional network of strands defining interconnected cells is characterized in that at least one compound selected from the group consisting of nitrides, carbides, borides and silicides of metals is dispersed in or deposited on the strands of the porous ceramic body, and the porous ceramic body has a bulk specific gravity of 0.25 to 0.6, an average pore diameter of 0.3 to 10 mm, a porosity of 75 to 95%, and an air pressure drop of 0.1 to 30 mm in water gauge when air passes through the porous ceramic body over a thickness of 1 cm at a velocity of 1 m/sec. The porous ceramic body has improved thermal properties. When needle-like crystals are dispersed in the porous ceramic body, creep resistance and strength at high temperature are both improved.

Safe and perfect filtration of molten metal such as molten aluminium is obtained efficienty by a molten metal filtering device which comprises a filter housing provided in a flow path for molten metal, a horizontal partition disposed within the filter housing and having at least one filter-setting hole bored therethrough. A filter frame is detachably fitted to said filter-setting hole in such a manner that the upper part thereof protrudes from the filter-setting hole, and a filter medium is set in position within the filter frame at a level such that the upper surface of the filter medium falls below an inflow path and an overflow path for the molten metal.

Molten metal filtering device

An ink roller and a method of producing the same are disclosed. This ink roller is produced by preheating a flexible polyurethane foam havng a three-dimensional skeletal reticulated structure and a pore size of 20-60 pores/cm at 130.degree.-190.degree. C., subjecting the preheated foam to permanent deformation through compression at a temperature of 130.degree.-220.degree. C. and a compressibility of 1/3-1/15 and cutting the resulting compression body having a hardness of 15.degree.-60.degree. into a given shape in such a manner that the axial direction is coincident with the compression direction of the compression body.

Ink roller and a method of producing the same

A device for the purification of exhaust gas is disclosed. This purification device comprises a ceramic porous body having a three-dimensional network cellular structure with a plurality of interconnected voids and a bulk specific gravity of 0.25-0.6, an activated alumina layer covering the surfaces of cell strands of the ceramic porous body, and a noble metal catalyst layer supported on the activated alumina layer, or comprises a reactive member composed of the purification device as described above, and an agitating member composed of a ceramic porous body or a gas adsorbing member composed of a ceramic porous body and a gas adsorbent applied to the ceramic porous body.

Device for purification of exhaust gas

A ceramic porous body useful as a filtering material for molten metal is disclosed. The ceramic porous body is formed by covering surfaces of cell strands of a ceramic porous body skeleton consisting essentially of silica, alumina and magnesia and having a bulk specific gravity of 0.3-0.6 with an activation layer consisting of 3-40% by weight per the weight of the skeleton of an activated alumina and 0.5-10% by weight of a flux for aluminum and has an average diameter of interconnected voids of 0.3-5.0 mm, a pressure loss of 0.3-30 mm as a water-gauge pressure when passing air through the body of 1 cm thick at a rate of 1 m/sec., a microsurface area of not less than 10 m.sup.2 /g and a porosity of 75-95%.

A ceramic porous body useful as a filtering material for molten metal is disclosed. The ceramic porous body, consisting essentially of cordierite, alumina and silica, is formed by covering surfaces of cell strands of a ceramic porous body skeleton having a bulk specific gravity of 0.25-0.55 with 3-40% by weight per the weight of the skeleton of an activated alumina layer and has an average diameter of interconnected voids of 0.3-5.0 mm, a pressure loss of 0.3-30.0 mm as a water-gauge pressure when passing air through the body of 1 cm thick at a rate of 1 m/sec., a microsurface area of not less than 10 m.sup.2 /g and a porosity of 75-95%.

The ceramic porous body has a three-dimensionally network cellular structure with a plurality of interconnected voids and is characterized by having a pore size of 25-35 pores per linear centimeter in optional cut area, a bulk specific gravity of 0.3-0.7, a porosity of 75-90%, and a pressure loss of 4.8-30.0 mm as a water-gauge pressure when passing air through the body of 1 cm thickness at a rate of 1 m/sec.
