According to one embodiment, an electronic apparatus includes a nonvolatile memory and a hardware processor. The nonvolatile memory is configured not to permit a user using the electronic apparatus to access the nonvolatile memory. The hardware processor is configured to download a client program for connection to a first server apparatus configured to provide a virtual desktop environment, from a second server apparatus different from the first server apparatus, make the downloaded client program stored in the nonvolatile memory, and launch the client program stored in the nonvolatile memory in order for the electronic apparatus to receive the virtual desktop environment, in a case where the client program is stored in the nonvolatile memory.

According to one embodiment, an information processing apparatus includes a processor, a volatile memory, a BIOS-ROM, and an interface. An embedded OS in the BIOS-ROM causes the processor to execute connecting the apparatus to a server via a network, and when the server sets a first OS as an OS in the apparatus by switching from the embedded OS, and a nonvolatile memory connected via the interface stores a second OS used at previous startup of the apparatus, loading the second OS into the volatile memory and starting the second OS. The second OS causes the processor to execute downloading the first OS from the server and storing the downloaded first OS in the nonvolatile memory.

According to one embodiment, an electronic apparatus includes: a presence determining module configured to determine at an interval whether a user is present based on image data output by a camera; a display power controller configured to turn on a display when the user is present and to turn off the display when the user is not present, based on a result of the presence determining module; and a detection interval controller configured to control the interval such that the interval is shorter when the display is off compared to when the display is on and the user is determined to be present.

The user presence determination module determines presence of a user based on image data received from the camera while dominating access to a camera. The user authentication module dominates access to the camera, if the display is put in a screen lock state and to perform a user authentication based on the image data. The controller turns off the display if the user present determination module determines that the user is absent and while the display has not been put in the screen lock state, and to cause the user presence determination module to release the access to the camera and to put the display in the screen lock state before turning on the display if it is determined after the display is turned off that the user is present.

The sensor senses a vibration of the housing. The disk device stores operation data, the disk device including a head, wherein the head retracts to a safety position when the sensed vibration exceeds a sensitivity level, and the operation data includes an evaluated value for evaluating an operation state of the head, and a threshold corresponding to the evaluated value. The first determination controller determines whether the evaluated value exceeds the threshold. The first changing controller changes the sensitivity level based on the result of the first determination controller.

According to one embodiment, an information processing apparatus includes an optical disc drive, a data processing module which executes data processing using the optical disc drive, and a power supply management module which manages supply of power to the optical disc drive. The data processing module interrogates the power supply management module about the optical disc drive at the time of activation, and waits until an operating system recognizes the optical disc drive when an instruction is received from the power supply management module in response to an interrogation. The instruction instructs to wait until the operating system recognizes the optical disc drive. The power supply management module shifts the optical disc drive to a power supply on state and returns the instruction to the data processing module, if the optical disc drive is in a power supply off state when the interrogation is received.
