An apparatus for detecting a stepped portion between an upper cloth and a lower cloth on which the upper cloth is mounted, including a light-emitter for transmitting light to a light receiver. The stepped portion is detected based on a decrease in light received by the light receiver. In order to assure detection of the stepped portion, an optimum amount of light to be emitted from the light-emitter is determined so that a deviation between a transmissivity of the lower cloth and a transmissivity of both cloths arranged in a layered configuration may be maximized.

Apparatus for detecting the end of cloth-overlap on a sewing machine

A detecting device of the feeding quantity of material in a sewing machine includes a dial rotatably mounted on an arm of the sewing machine, a mechanism operatively connected to the dial for varying the feeding quantity in response to the rotational quantity of the dial, a signal generator converting the rotational quantity into the electric signals, and a display device electrically connected to the signal generator for displaying signals outputted therefrom.

Detecting device of the feeding quantity in a sewing machine

An apparatus for detecting the terminus of cloth being sewn by a sewing machine. A plurality of sensors are disposed on a path along which the cloth is fed and at positions upstream of the needle, and they each consist of a light emitting portion and a light receiving portion paired and disposed in opposition. A detector electrically detects a set cloth feed amount, and a selection circuit operates to electrically select one of the sensors which is positioned at the optimum position with respect to the set cloth feed amount.
