An endoscope system comprises a plurality of endoscope components including at least one endoscope light source apparatus for supplying illumination light to an endoscope and at least one video signal processing unit for processing video signals provided by the endoscope, a main control unit for controlling the plurality of endoscope system components, and a main operational instruction unit connected to the main control unit and used to operate the plurality of endoscope system components. The main operational instruction unit includes a display capable of selectively displaying operational instruction input screens associated with functions possessed by the plurality of endoscope system components.

An ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus including an ultrasonic vibrating element, a rotator for rotating the ultrasonic vibrating element, an illuminating window and an observing window arranged in a side wall of an inserting portion. The apparatus is so arranged that the center axis of the inserting portion is deviated from that of the rotator with respect to the radial direction but the center of curvature of a cover window surrounding the rotator is coincident with the center axis of the rotator. Therefore, a uniform resolving power can be obtained in all directions into which the ultrasonic wave is transmitted. Then an ultrasonic image without undesired artificates is displayed on a screen of a monitor and the outer diameter of the inserting portion can be made small.

In a probe for observing an ultrasonic image, which obtains the ultrasonic image of an object to be observed such as a body cavity by means of an ultrasonic transmitting and receiving means, a mechanical scanning operation of the ultrasonic transmitting and receiving means is performed by an ultrasonic driving means, and thus it is possible to obtain a good diagnosis image with no distortion and no flicker because noises of the driving means can be reduced. An ultrasonic diagnosis device disclosed includes an endoscope with an ultrasonic diagnosis function, wherein an ultrasonic probe is arranged in the front end region of the portion to be inserted into a coelom or the like cavity, and is connected to an external rotational drive portion by a hollow multi-layered power transmission means to provide an observation field extending through the entire angular range. Signal wires from the probe and passed between outer and inner layers of the power transmission means which thus has a hollow center channel. Preferably, an observation optical system is arranged within the hollow channel to provide a visual field on the front side in the insertion direction, for a continuous confirmation purpose, permitting the insertion portion to be safely inserted even into a narrow cavity of an organ with a complex undulation.
