A microscope system comprises a microscope body, a stage configured to place a slide as an observation target and move in an X direction and a Y direction. The microscope system changes an arrangement of the placed slide with respect to the stage so as to cause a direction indicated by a mark provided on the slide placed on the stage to align with one of the X direction and the Y direction of the stage.

A microscope system includes an observation optical system including an objective lens, an XY stage capable of moving an XY plane in an X-axis direction and an Y-axis direction, a first change unit configured to change a slant of the XY plane with respect to an optical axis direction of the objective lens, and a second change unit configured to change a slant of a slide placed on the XY stage with respect to the XY plane. Changing the slant of the XY plane by the first change unit is performed based on a first mark arranged on the XY plane at a position observable by the observation optical system. This invention constructs within the LAN a private area network (PAN) which is configured by terminal devices (personal computers and the like) of a specific group, is hardly influenced by the LAN traffic, and has high security. An image input apparatus is provided which is capable of taking a still image with high quality and with easy operations. The image input apparatus disclosed herein has a video camera and an expansion board mounted on a personal computer. The video camera has a lens, a shutter release switch, an image pickup device, a VIDS circuit, and the like. The expansion board connected via a camera cable to the video camera has a VIDS circuit, an A/D converter, a synchronous signal generator, and the like. As the shutter release switch of the video camera is depressed, the expansion board is controlled to read still image data and compress it. As the shutter release switch is released, it is controlled to resume the initial operations of reading moving image data and compressing it.
