An apparatus for holding a printing medium on a rotary drum, includes a rotary drum, a suction device, a medium holding mechanism and a medium removing device. The drum has a recess at its outer surface to extend along its rotation center line and rotates at a predetermined speed. A region of the outer surface, which is adjacent to a rearward end of the recess along the rotation direction, is smaller in the diameter than the remaining of the outer surface. The suction device holds by suction the medium onto the outer surface. The holding mechanism has a hook in the recess and selectively drives the hook between close and open positions. At the close position, the hook is placed over the adjacent region while being prevented from radially outwardly projecting from the remaining of the outer surface, and at the open position it is distanced from the adjacent region. When the medium arrives at the adjacent region, its leading end is held by the hook shifted from the open position to the close position and cooperated with the adjacent region and, when the drum rotates a specific number, the hook is returned to the open position. The removing device removes the medium from the outer surface when the drum rotates the specific number and the hook has moved from the close position to the open position.

Apparatus for holding a printing medium on a rotary drum and ink jet

A printing medium discharge apparatus used for discharging a printing medium from a rotary drum in an ink jet printer for printing a desired image onto the printing medium by an ink jet while holding the printing medium on the rotary drum, includes a printing medium carry and discharge device and a printing medium press device. The printing medium carry and discharge device carries thereon the printing medium from the rotary drum, on the printing medium an image having been printed, to make a non-image formation surface of the printing medium including no image formation region contact the printing medium carry and discharge device, and discharges the printing medium carried thereon to be moved apart from the rotary drum. The printing medium press device presses an image formation surface including an image formation region of the printing medium carried on the printing medium carry and discharge device, against the printing medium carry and discharge device, thereby to prevent the printing medium from floating up from the printing medium carry and discharge device while the printing medium is discharged by the printing medium carry and discharge device.

Printing medium discharge apparatus used in an ink jet printer

The thermal head supporting device of the invention comprises a pair of positioning members disposed at both sides of a platen, a head press/release mechanism movable toward and away from the platen, and a head unit coupled with the head press/release mechanism. The positioning members are disposed coaxially with the platen. The head unit is formed of a head supporting member removably coupled to the head press/release mechanism with a predetermined play, a thermal head supported on the head supporting member and having a plurality of heating elements arranged in a straight line thereon and in confronting relationship with the platen, and a pair of engagement members attached to both sides of the thermal head adjustably for position, and each of the engagement members has a cutting formed therein allowing each positioning member to be removably fitted therein.

A printer according to the present invention having a vertical type body, so as to remarkably reduce a bottom surface area of the printer. A paper feed mechanism, a platen and a carrier are arranged on a front side of the body, so as to readily set a paper and exchange a printing ribbon. A power source block which forms the heaviest part including a transformer, etc. is arranged at a lower portion on a rear side of the body by utilizing a dead space on the rear side, so as to enhance stability. Further, a handle is provided at an upper portion of the vertical body, so as to allow for easy transport of the body.

A printing machine capable of printing characters on two kinds of paper sheets, long paper sheets and short paper sheets, comprises two paper holder members movably provided relative to a paper feed roller to cause the long paper sheet to be clamped between the paper holder members and the paper feed roller, and a drive mechanism for moving the paper holder members to clamp a long paper sheet between the paper holder members and the paper feed roller when a pinch roller is pivoted away from the paper feed roller by another drive mechanism in order to set a short paper sheet into a space between a platen and a printing head.

An apparatus with a printer for a printing paper strip includes a paper feed guide having an outlet on one side of a platen, a paper discharge guide having an inlet on the other side of the platen, a unit frame attached to an apparatus housing to be able to rock between an open position where the paper discharge guide is exposed and a closed position where the paper discharge guide is covered and the printing paper strip is allowed to be guided, a drive roller provided to the apparatus housing located on the other side of the platen, a pinch roller mechanism provided to the unit frame and having a pinch roller which goes away from the drive roller when the unit frame is located in the open position, and approaches the driver roller when the unit frame is located in the closed position, and a rotation drive mechanism for rotating the drive roller to carry the printing paper strip from the paper feed guide to the paper discharge guide via the platen.
