A method for writing a multi-session recordable disc. The method includes performing an immediate optimum power calibration (IOPC) in the lead-in area of each session of a multi-session recordable disc, determining a recording power for the session according to the IOPC output, and completing the session using the determined recording power. The method may be used in addition to the optimal power calibration (OPC) procedures included in the normal initialization of recordable discs. IOPC provides recording devices with an optimal recording power value obtained closer to the point of use than that obtained by conventional OPC procedures carried out at the extremities of the recordable area. Alternative embodiments of the method make accommodations for recording power variations according to disc velocity mode (CAV/CLV), recording speed, and the basis of the IOPC upon a variety of available data sources.

Method for implementing optimal recording power for multi-session recordable optical media in an optical disc drive

A CD-R/RW drive (optical storage carrier player) includes an access device for writing data on a CD (optical storage carrier). The CD includes a central portion, an inner power calibration area which can provide the optical power calibration 100 times, a data storage area for data writing by a user and a last possible lead-out area, in order from CD center to CD outer edge. The method is to define an outer power calibration area in the last possible lead-out area to perform optical power calibration in this outer power calibration area such that the total number of optical power calibrations for the CD can exceed 100.

Optical power calibration at the outer edge of an optical storage carrier

A method is used for calibrating a writing power of an optical storage carrier player. The player has an access device for writing data onto the optical storage carrier. The carrier includes a center, an inner power calibration area (first calibration area), a data storage area, and an outer power calibration area (second calibration area). The method determines a writing location of the data in the data storage area, and controls the access device to perform an optical power calibration process in either the inner power calibration area or the outer power calibration area according to the writing location. Once completed, the method then utilizes a result of the optical power calibration process to determine a required writing power, and finally controls the access device to write the data to the optical storage carrier in the writing location with the required writing power.

A data access method for improving performance of an optical disk drive is applied on a predetermined data access operation. A predetermined application program and the optical disk drive are used to run first, second, and third processes for accomplishing the predetermined data access operation. The predetermined application program runs the first process, and the optical disk drive runs the second process. The data access method includes the predetermined application program running the first process and outputting a control command to command the optical disk drive to start the second process, and the predetermined application program running the third process for controlling the optical disk drive to access an optical disk after the first process and the second process are finished. In addition, the time for the predetermined application program to complete the first process overlaps the time for the optical disk drive to complete the second process.

Data access method for improving performance of an optical disk drive

A method for determining an optical write power and an optical disc access system using the same. In addition to a typical Inner Power Calibration Area, the method includes an Outer (second) Power Calibration Area implementation on the outer area of a Readable/Writable Optical disc with a constant linear velocity (CLV) format; when a data writing speed selected by a user causes a rotation speed required by an optical power calibration on an Inner (first) Power Calibration Area of the disc greater than an Optical Power Calibration (OPC) limit, the optical disc access system uses a lower rotation speed for the optical power calibration on the Outer Power Calibration Area to ensure the accuracy of the power calibration.

Method for determining an optical write power and an optical disc access system using the same

The invention is to provide a method for determining a recording power of a radiation beam for recording information onto a recording medium operated at a user-desired speed. According to a preferred embodiment of the method of the invention, under operation of multiple of test speeds in turn, multiple of optimum recording powers which each corresponds to one of the test speeds are determined, respectively. Then, a function of speed is generated by fitting the corresponding optimum recording powers vs. the test speeds. The recording power for the user-desired speed is calculated by applying the user-desired speed in the function of speed.
