A belt drive mechanism with gear back-up comprises a driving pulley to which a driving gear is attached, a driven pulley to which a driven gear is attached, a drive belt drivingly connected between the driving and driven pulleys, and a back-up gear disposed between the driving and driven gears. When the drive belt is engaged with the driving and driven pulleys, teeth of the back-up gear are spaced apart from teeth of the driving and driven gears, and at least a portion of the teeth of the back-up gear are interposed between the teeth of the driving and driven gears. Thus, in a normal state, the drive belt is driven by the driving pulley and drives the driven pulley. However, in case of belt failure, the back-up gear is driven by the driven gear attached to the driving pulley and drives the driven gear attached to the driven pulley instead of the drive belt.

A motor assembly may comprise: a motor rotor shaft; and a flange attached to the motor rotor shaft, at least a part of an inner surface of the flange contacted with a first part of a circumferential surface of the motor rotor shaft, wherein the motor rotor shaft comprises: a toothed pulley directly machined on a second part of the circumferential surface of the motor rotor shaft to be coupled with a drive belt, the toothed pulley of the motor rotor shaft having a diameter smaller than the first part of the motor rotor shaft contacting the flange; and a step part disposed between the first and second parts of the motor rotor shaft, the step part of the motor rotor shaft having a diameter gradually increasing from the toothed pulley to the first part of the motor rotor shaft contacting the flange.

A method of fabricating a ball nut assembly is provided. The method includes providing a ball nut having a keyway slot. The method also includes forming a polymer pulley having an inner surface defining a bore, a cut-out formed in the inner surface, and a torque member extending radially inward from the inner surface, wherein the keyway slot is configured to receive the torque member therein.

An electromechanical actuator package for supplying toque to a handwheel, may comprise: a motor comprising a motor rotor shaft; a belt drive mechanism connecting the motor rotor shaft to an actuator output via a drive belt, the actuator output directly or indirectly connected to the handwheel; a circuit board; and a housing enclosing the motor, the belt drive mechanism and the circuit board, wherein the circuit board is positioned between one end of the motor rotor shaft and an inner surface of the housing. The actuator output may protrude from the driven pulley in a direction away from the circuit board and pass through an opening formed in the lower surface of the housing. Alternatively, the actuator output may protrude from the driven pulley toward the circuit board and pass through openings formed in the circuit board and the upper surface of housing.

A electromechanical actuator package for actuating a brake assembly may comprise: a motor comprising a motor rotor shaft on which a drive pulley is formed; a multi-stage belt drive mechanism connecting the motor rotor shaft to an actuator output via a plurality of drive belts, the actuator output associated with the brake assembly; a circuit board; and a housing enclosing the motor, the multi-stage belt drive mechanism and the circuit board, wherein the circuit board is positioned between one end of the motor rotor shaft and an inner surface of the housing. The electromechanical actuator package may improve mechanical efficiency as well as reduce the packaging size and mass. Further, the electromechanical actuator package may reduce operational noise.

The second retaining member is secured to the ball-screw nut. The first compressible member positioned between the housing and the outer race. The second compressible member is positioned between the outer race and the retaining member. The retaining member is configured to be preloaded to exert an axial force upon the first compressible member and the second compressible member.

The bearing assembly is located between the housing and the ball-screw. The bearing assembly includes an outer race. The retaining member is secured by the housing. The first compressible member is positioned between the housing and the outer race. The second compressible member is positioned between the outer race and the retaining member. The retaining member is configured to be preloaded to exert an axial force upon the first compressible member and the second compressible member.

A system for providing enhanced steering pull compensation is provided. The system compensates for steering pull in a vehicle using a signal from a pull compensation signal generator. The signal from the pull compensation signal generator is processed though a processing mechanism. The processing mechanism controls a power steering assist motor through fault and limit logic as a function of the pull compensation signal generator, thereby providing steering pull compensation. The processing mechanism also controls the power steering assist motor based on input from a vehicle speed sensor and a calibration input mechanism.

A method for reducing current and torque ripple in a brushed electric motor is disclosed. The motor includes a stator and a rotor. The stator includes a brush housing having a plurality of circumferentially spaced brushes disposed about a commutator, each brush having a contact face that is in electrical contact with the commutator, an opposed bias face and a peripheral wall, each brush disposed in a brush pocket having a pocket wall, a base and a bias spring that is configured to apply a contact force to the bias face, thereby urging the contact face into electrical contact with the commutator. The method includes inserting a damper between each pocket wall or respective base and the respective brush.

A power steering device includes a first gear provided on the first shaft, the first gear having a centerline axis, and a second gear operatively connected to the first gear. The second gear includes a rotational axis that is maintained substantially coplanar with the centerline axis. The power steering device further includes a compliant member operatively connected with the second gear. The compliant member allows rotational compliance of the second gear while avoiding axial and radial compliance.

A method, system, and apparatus for providing enhanced steering pull compensation are provided. The method compensates for steering pull in a vehicle steering system that includes a handwheel. The method includes monitoring the vehicle to determine whether the vehicle is heading forward along a substantially linear straight-ahead path and, if so, measuring handwheel torque, as a sensed torque signal, to determine an amount of steering pull existing at the handwheel. The method also includes generating a torque assist signal in response to the sensed torque signal and calculating an offset signal for reducing the amount of steering pull to substantially zero. The method further includes producing a modified torque assist signal by adding the offset signal to the torque assist signal, and applying the modified torque assist signal to the vehicle steering system.

A gear isolator assembly includes a gearbox housing, a first gear having a first axis of rotation about a first shaft and the second gear having a second axis of rotation about a second shaft. The first and second gears are rotatably mounted in a gearbox housing so that the first and second gears mesh with each other such that the first axis of the first gear is substantially perpendicular to the second axis of the second gear. The gear isolator assembly is preferably disposed within the gearbox housing about the second gear for reducing noise generated between the first and second gears during operation of the mechanism.
