A capacitor is provided that includes a capacitor stack including an anode layer, cathode layer, and electrolytic layer electrically coupled together, the capacitor stack including a capacitor stack periphery. The capacitor also includes a first cover portion having a first cover portion periphery that aligns with the capacitor stack periphery, and a second cover portion having a second cover portion periphery that aligns with the capacitor stack periphery and received the first cover portion periphery to form a shell body for encasing the capacitor stack therein. The capacitor stack is isolated from the second cover portion to provide a neutrally charged second cover portion that is electrically coupled within an implanted medical device.

A cathode subassembly for use in an electrolytic capacitor may include a first separator sheet including a surface having first and second regions, where the second region extends from a perimeter of the first region to a first peripheral edge of the first sheet, a second peripheral edge of a second sheet is substantially aligned with the first peripheral edge, a conductive foil is sandwiched between the first and second sheets and disposed within the first region, the first and second sheets are adhered to each other in a sealing region extending from the second region to a region of a surface of the second sheet facing the second region, and the first sheet includes at least one first recess portion at the first peripheral edge aligned with at least one second recess portion at the second peripheral edge of the second sheet.

Cathode subassembly with integrated separator for electrolytic capacitor, and method of manufacture thereof

The electrolytic capacitor has a conductive sheet with a central portion defined by a peripheral edge, a first tail extending out from the peripheral edge in a first direction, and a second tail extending out from the peripheral edge in a second direction. The second direction is opposite the first direction. The first tail and the second tail each have a free end with a first recess at the free.

Disclosed herein is an electrode feedthru assembly for an electronic device and method of manufacturing. The feedthru assembly includes a ferrule, an electrode assembly, and an elastomer. The ferrule includes a bore through which the electrode assembly is positioned. The electrode assembly includes an electrode wire attached to a crimp pin. The crimp pin includes a crimp terminal portion and a pin terminal portion, the crimp terminal portion crimped to the a portion of the electrode wire to form a connected portion of the electrode assembly. The elastomer is disposed in the bore of the ferrule between the ferrule and the electrode assembly. The elastomer is configured to electrically isolate the ferrule from the electrode assembly and to encapsulate at least the connected portion of the electrode assembly.

Electrode feedthru having pin attached to wire therein and method of manufacturing

A process and apparatus are presented for cleaning the tunnels of an electrochemically etched anode foil. The apparatus includes a tank, a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, and one or more tranducers. The tank is designed to receive a plurality of cartridges, each of the plurality of cartridges having a reservoir and being designed to hold a metal foil. The fluid inlet and fluid outlet are coupled with at least one of the plurality of cartridges, and are designed to introduce and expel, respectively, a liquid from the reservoir within at least one of the plurality of cartridges. The one or more transducers are coupled to at least one wall of each reservoir, the one or more transducers being designed to sonicate the liquid within each reservoir at a frequency less than 300 Hz.

Disclosed herein is an electrode feedthru assembly for an electronic device and method of manufacturing. The feedthru assembly includes a ferrule, an electrode assembly, and an elastomer. The ferrule includes a bore through which the electrode assembly is positioned. The electrode assembly includes an electrode wire attached to a crimp pin. The crimp pin includes a crimp terminal portion and a pin terminal portion, the crimp terminal portion being crimped to a portion of the electrode wire to form a connected portion of the electrode assembly. The elastomer is disposed in the bore of the ferrule between the ferrule and the electrode assembly. The elastomer electrically isolates the ferrule from the electrode assembly and encapsulates at least the connected portion of the electrode assembly.

Designs of a capacitor housing and method of assembly are presented. A case for an electrolytic capacitor includes a non-conducting cover, a non-conducting ring component, and a non-conducting plate. The non-conducting cover has a patterned groove on a surface of the non-conducting cover. The non-conducting ring component has a shape that is substantially the same as a shape of the non-conducting cover, and is coupled to the non-conducting cover via the patterned groove of the non-conducting cover. The non-conducting plate has a shape that is substantially the same as the shape of the non-conducting cover, and has a patterned groove on a surface of the non-conducting plate. The non-conducting ring component is coupled to the non-conducting plate via the groove of the non-conducting plate.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitor and assembly thereof

An electrolytic capacitor is disclosed having a housing in an arced-trapezoidal shape. Disposed within the housing are one or more anodes, one or more cathodes, one or more separators disposed between anodes that are adjacent anodes cathodes, and an electrolyte disposed around the one or more anodes, the one or more cathodes, and the one or more separators within the housing. The housing of the electrolytic capacitor includes front and back walls shaped as arced-trapezoids and four sidewalls that substantially follow the outline of the front and back walls. The electrolytic capacitor is configured to connect in series with one or more electrolytic capacitors of the same shape to form a capacitor assembly. In the capacitor assembly, electrolytic capacitors are placed such that sidewalls are adjacent to each other to form a D-shaped capacitor assembly.

High voltage capacitor with increased anode surface area and method of making same

A process for creating an anode foil for use in an electrolytic capacitor of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator is provided. The process includes placing a partially masked bulk metal foil in an etch electrolyte solution to etch exposed area of the bulk metal foil, removing the etch-resistant mask to expose the unetched areas, widening the bulk metal foil, and partially cutting the bulk metal foil between a plurality of unetched areas to form a partially detached etched foil anode, such that the unetched areas are not cut and the unetched areas serve as attachment tabs to keep the partially detached etched foil anode attached to the bulk metal foil. Additionally, the process may include an oxide formation step, wherein the step of partially cutting the bulk metal foil is performed after the etching and widening steps, and before the oxide formation step.

Using etch resist patterns and formation for facilitation of laser cutting, particle and leakage current reduction

Electrode foils suitable for use in electrolytic capacitors, including those having multiple configurations, have improved strength, reduced brittleness, and increased capacitance compared to conventional anode foils for electrolytic capacitors. Exemplary methods of manufacturing an anode foil suitable for use in an electrolytic capacitor include forming a pattern of etch resist on a surface of a substrate; etching a first area of the surface substantially enclosed by the pattern and a second area in intervals between the pattern to form tunnels in first and second areas of the surface; and removing the resist material revealing a non-etched frame. The resist material may be deposited, for example, by ink-jet printing, stamping or screen printing. Additionally, an etch resist pattern may be used to form strength lines on the substrate surface.

Method for making electrode foils having reduced particle detachment and reduced leakage current

A capacitor assembly is configured for use with an implantable medical device (IMD. The capacitor assembly may include a stack assembly having at least one anode stack between outer cathodes, and a housing having a case secured to a lid. The case and the lid define an internal chamber that retains the stack assembly. One of the case or the lid comprises a folded double wall connected to a drawn end. A recessed area is defined between the folded double wall and the drawn end. A linear edge of the other of the case and the lid is retained within the recessed area.

System and method for forming a charge storage assembly

A chuck for a power tool having a plurality of chuck jaws of the type that open to receive a work tool and close to grip the work tool, wherein the chuck comprises a front sleeve, a rear sleeve, and an integral chuck jaw unit fitted within the front and rear sleeves in a removable manner. The chuck jaw unit includes a plurality of chuck jaws, a support body having individual jaw bores for receiving the chuck jaws, a traveler affixed to the remote ends of the chuck jaws; and an operator for reciprocating the traveler along a chuck axis to open and close the chuck jaws. The traveler includes internal traveler threads and the operator includes a threaded barrel in the form of a jack screw on which the traveler threads up and down. The operator of the chuck unit and the rear sleeve may be press fitted together so that manual rotation of the rear sleeve causes the operator to rotate whereby the traveler reciprocates.
