The control system is configured to display a graphical user interface via the display system. The graphical user interface includes a virtual navigation view. The control system is further configured to receive imaging data from the imaging probe. The control system is further configured to determine a target location based on the imaging data. The control system is further configured to determine a position of a distal end of the elongate device. The control system is further configured to display a graphical marker in the virtual navigation view indicating a direction to steer the elongate device from the position of the distal end of the elongate device to the target location.

Systems and methods for updating a target location using intraoperative image data

A medical system comprises an elongate instrument and a control system. The control system is adapted to generate a first model of the elongate instrument and generate a second model of the elongate instrument based at least in part on a reference pose of the elongate instrument. The control system is further adapted to compare the first model with the second model and determine a difference between the first model and the second model. The control system is further adapted to characterize the difference between the first model and the second model and determine a state of instrument buckling based on the characterization of the difference between the first model and the second model.

Systems and methods for determining buckling and patient movement during a medical procedure

Methods of monitoring a medical instrument are provided. The methods may include receiving state information from a control system in communication with the medical instrument; detecting motion of at least a portion of the medical instrument and comparing the motion of the portion of the medical instrument with a threshold motion value that is based on the state information received from the control system. The methods may further include generating a communication message for presentation to an operator of the medical instrument based on the comparison of the motion with the threshold motion value. A system may comprise a processor and a memory having computer readable instructions stored thereon. The computer readable instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the system to record position data for an instrument during an image capture period and determine an instrument position change from the recorded position data. The computer readable instructions, when executed by the processor, may also cause the system to compare the instrument position change to a position change threshold and based on the comparison, determine whether to use image data captured by an imaging system during the image capture period in a registration procedure.

Systems and methods for registering an instrument to an image using change in instrument position data

A method of controlling an elongate instrument during a medical procedure involving motion of the elongate instrument relative to a patient is provided. The method includes generating, by a control system, a first model of the elongate instrument, and generating, by the control system, a second model of the elongate instrument based on a reference pose of the elongate instrument. The method further includes comparing, by the control system, the first model with the second model and determining, by the control system, a state of a system configuration based on the comparison.

An optical fiber cleaning assembly includes a cleaning tape, a first spool having the cleaning tape wound thereon, a second spool onto which the cleaning tape is drawn, a drive mechanism configured to move the cleaning tape from the first spool to the second spool, and one or more first connectors configured to mate with one or more connectors of a system, the system including a first optical fiber. A method of monitoring a medical instrument during a medical procedure includes: receiving state information from a control system in communication with the medical instrument; detecting, by the control system, motion of at least a portion of the medical instrument; comparing the detected motion of the at least the portion of the medical instrument with a threshold motion value based on the state information received from the control system; determining, based on the detected motion exceeding the threshold motion value, significant movement of a patient has occurred; providing a system response based on determining significant movement of the patient has occurred; comparing the detected motion with a threshold control value, wherein the threshold control value is higher than the threshold motion value; and disregarding, when the detected motion is higher than the threshold control value, motion commands received from a master assembly.
