An apparatus comprises both a first side and a second side that is opposite the first side. The apparatus includes a plurality of photovoltaic cells disposed on the first side of the substrate and a plurality of microwave antennas disposed on both the first side of the substrate and the second side of the substrate. In addition, the apparatus comprises at least one photonic integrated circuit operably coupled to the substrate and to at least one of the plurality of photovoltaic cells to thereby receive electrical power therefrom. By one approach, the apparatus can further comprise at least one atomic clock supported by the substrate. By one approach, at least some of the aforementioned plurality of microwave antennas that are disposed on the first side of the substrate can comprise an optically transparent portion that serves as both a protective cover and a focusing lens.

Method and apparatus for space-based collection and use of photonic power

An apparatus can comprise a water tower that itself comprises an elevated water reservoir, at least one water conduit coupled between the elevated water reservoir and an external water distribution system, and at least a first water turbine disposed and configured to receive water via the at least one water conduit and to exit water to the external water distribution system. The apparatus can further comprise a generator that operably couples to that water turbine. The water tower can further include a speed-increasing gearbox that operably couples between an output shaft of the first water turbine and that generator. The apparatus optionally includes at least one electrolyzer operably coupled to receive both water and/or electricity sourced by the aforementioned water tower. The apparatus can also include at least one hydrogen-powered generator that receives hydrogen from the electrolyzer and that burns that hydrogen to generate electricity.

A cinch for a tether used to elevate equipment in the field. An element having a tapered section connects with either a rope or strap. The element is removably received in a receptacle through which the tether has been passed. The receptacle has a side notch to facilitate looping the tether around the equipment. The cinch can be manipulated in the dark.

A tailgate ramp system for use with a loading ramp. The tailgate ramp system is used to support one end of the loading ramp on the tailgate of a motor vehicle. The tailgate ramp system includes a tailgate adapter having a tailgate mount adapted to lie on a portion of the tailgate and a ramp support adapted to be coupled to one end of the loading ramp and to the tailgate mount.

A lockable hinge includes a first and second hinge member, a lock, and an actuator. The lockable hinge is coupled to a pair of ladder-leg sections and is arranged to allow the ladder-leg sections to move among closed, trestle-ladder, and straight-ladder positions. The lock is used to lock the hinge members to cause the ladder-leg sections to lock in the closed, trestle-ladder and straight-ladder positions.

A booster seat includes a juvenile seat configured to mount on a tiltable base. By adjusting the tilting orientation of the base relative to an underlying vehicle seat, a caregiver can control the orientation of the juvenile seat relative to the underlying vehicle seat.

A juvenile vehicle seat includes a seat shell having a seat bottom and a back support coupled to the seat bottom. A headrest of the juvenile vehicle seat is coupled to the seat shell for up-and-down movement relative to the seat shell to adjust a height of the headrest above the seat bottom of the seat shell. The juvenile vehicle seat further includes a height-adjustment mechanism arranged to adjust the height of the headrest above the seat bottom. The height-adjustment mechanism is arranged to move between a locked position to prevent up-and-down movement of the headrest and an unlocked position to permit up-and-down movement of the headrest.

A collapsible and telescopically constructed shovel. A scoop configured main body has a tubular member extending outwardly therefrom that slidably receives an elongated member of a handle. A latch pivotally mounted to the tubular member includes a pair of ridges extending into slots of the handle member and further includes a pair of hook shaped distal ends to secure the latch in either an erected or collapsed position.

A sunvisor assembly comprising a mounting assembly and a vehicle visor blade pivotally mounted on a support rod. The mounting assembly attaches the sunvisor assembly to a headliner prior to the installation of the headliner in a vehicle. The mounting assembly also attaches the sunvisor assembly to a roof panel in the vehicle when the headliner and sunvisor assembly are installed in the vehicle. The mounting assembly includes an elbow attachable to the support rod, a mounting bracket, an inner bracket and a camming member. A distal section of the elbow defines an axis about which the visor blade is rotatable and is insertable through a central opening in the mounting bracket. The mounting bracket also includes a laterally extending shroud disposed radially outwardly of the central opening. The inner bracket is attached to the distal section of the elbow and includes retaining members which extend radially outwardly from the inner bracket. The retaining members extend outwardly between axially extending securement members disposed on the mounting bracket. The mounting assembly is attached to the headliner by inserting a distal portion of the mounting assembly including the retaining members through an aperture in the headliner to engage the shroud with the proximal surface of the headliner. The mounting assembly is then rotated relative to the headliner aperture to engage the retaining members with the distal surface of the headliner and thereby attach the mounting assembly to the headliner. The mounting assembly and attached headliner are then installed in a vehicle by inserting the securement members through an aperture in a roof panel in the vehicle. A camming member is operatively disposed between the elbow and the mounting bracket and relative rotation of the elbow and mounting bracket biases the elbow and attached inner bracket in an axially proximal direction relative to the mounting bracket. The inner bracket is engaged with the radially inner surface of the securement members and the proximal axial movement of the inner bracket relative to the mounting bracket biases the securement members radially outwardly and into engagement with the vehicle roof panel.
