Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, system and computer program product for configurable pacing in messaging systems. In an embodiment of the invention, a configurable message pacing method has been provided. The method includes receiving a message directed for placement in a repository of an intermediate messaging system into which messages are placed by message producing applications and from which messages are retrieved by message consuming applications. Thereafter, it can be determined if the placement of the received message into the repository will result in a breach of an associated threshold value for the repository. Consequently, a message pacing action can be triggered responsive to the determination that the placement of the received message into the repository will result in a breach of the associated threshold value for the repository.

Configurable pacing for messaging systems

Transactional capable queuing is provided. A queue having an ordered list of messages is provided. A get cursor operation is provided within the queue to point to a current starting place for a getting application to start searching for a message to retrieve. A first lock is provided for putting operations, in response to there being more than one putting application, to ensure only one application is putting to the queue at a time. A second lock is provided for getting operations, in response to there being more than one getting application, to ensure that only one application is getting from the queue at a time. Putting applications and getting applications are synchronized to check and update the get cursor operation.

Transaction capable queuing

Documents are published in a publish subscribe data processing system. A first document to be published may have an associated topic. The first document is retained as a retained document. A second document to be published is retained as the retained document in response to receiving the second document before a predetermined time interval has passed. A copy of the second document is sent to a subscriber of the topic. A copy of the retained document is sent to the subscriber of the topic in response to a determination that the predetermined time interval has passed.

Publishing documents in a publish/subscribe data processing system

A computer implemented method for providing feedback to a publisher, comprising: responsive to receiving a published message from the publisher comprising an option requesting feedback, comparing the message with subscriber data; and responsive to the publish operation and responsive to determining a matching subscriber associated with the published message, selecting a notification for transmission to the publisher.

Method for providing feedback to a publisher

Messages in a publish/subscribe system can be processed after they leave the original publisher and before they are delivered to an ultimate subscriber. Each published message has an associated topic string and a PubLevel value initially assigned by the original publisher. Subscribers are assigned different SubLevel values. These subscribers register their subscriptions with a broker. When a published message having the appropriate topic string is received, the broker performs a subscriber selection process using the message topic string, the current message PubLevel value and the assigned SubLevel values of subscribers registered for the topic string. When a subscriber is selected, the broker changes the message PubLevel value and transmits the message only to the selected subscriber. The subscriber may be an intercepting subscriber that processes the published message and then re-publishes it back to the broker. The broker may repeat the subscriber selection process multiple times with the published message being sent to multiple intercepting systems, each of which processes and republishes the message before the processed message is finally sent by the broker to an ultimate subscriber.
