A surgical sagittal saw for use with a complementary blade assembly that includes a static bar. The saw includes a head over which the blade assembly bar is seated. A coupling rod is able to be mounted to the head to move along the longitudinal axis of the rod. The coupling rod has a head that, as result of the longitudinal movement of the rod is moved towards and away from the head. A blade assembly may be disposed on the saw head adjacent the coupling rod. The coupling rod can be positioned in a run state so that the rod head abuts the bar of the blade assembly so as to hold the blade assembly to the saw head. Alternatively, the coupling rod can be repositioned in a load state the rod head is spaced from the saw head. This allows the blade assembly to be removed and replaced.

A cutting system including a surgical saw and a blade assembly is described. The blade assembly may comprising a blade bar, a blade head, and a tag. The tag may comprise a memory containing data related to one or more characteristics of the blade assembly. The surgical saw may comprise a saw processor for receiving data from the tag of the blade assembly and be configured to regulate the operation of the saw based on the one or more characteristics of the blade assembly. The one or more characteristic of the blade assembly comprises may comprise a blade assembly length, a blade geometry, and a blade teeth geometry. A method of navigating a surgical saw is also described. The method may comprise attaching a blade to the saw, touching a pointer to reference points on the blade, and determining the position and orientation of a distal end of the blade.

The saw blade comprising a bar and a blade. The distal end of the bar formed with a distal end opening and a discharge port formed in at least one of the top and bottom faces that opens into the distal end opening, the discharge port for discharging debris. The bar is formed with a geometric feature for receiving a coupling member to hold the bar to the saw, the geometric feature being an opening that extends through the bar. The blade having a blade base disposed in the distal end opening of the bar and a blade crown that extends forward from the blade base and forward of the distal end of the bar.

Surgical saw blade

A surgical saw blade is described comprising an elongated blade bar having opposed plates. The blade bar has opposed proximal and distal sections, with the proximal section having a feature for releasably holding the blade bar to a powered surgical sagittal saw. The blade bar plates are spaced apart from each other to form a void space and a primary opening into the void space. A blade head of the surgical saw blade has a base disposed in the blade bar distal section opening that is pivotally mounted in the blade bar distal section void space, and a crown integral with the base that extends through and outside of the blade bar distal section primary opening, the crown being formed with teeth, wherein a thickness of the crown is greater than a thickness of the base to allow the insertion of the blade bar into a kerf cut.

A clamp rod is able to mounted to the head to move along the longitudinal axis of the rod. The rod has a head that, as result of the longitudinal movement of the rod is moved towards and away from the head. A blade assembly is disposed on the saw head adjacent the rod. The rod can be positioned in a run state so that the rod head abuts the bar of the blade assembly so as to hold the blade assembly to the saw head. Alternatively, the rod can be repositioned in a load state the rod head is spaced from the saw head. This allows the blade assembly to be removed and replaced. A control member mounted to the saw head controls the movement of the rod. When the rod is moved from the load state to the run state, a biasing member places a force on the rod to hold the rod in the run state.

A surgical sagittal saw for use with a complementary blade assembly that includes a static bar. The saw includes a head over which the blade assembly bar is seated. A biasing member mounted to the saw head normally places a force of the blade assembly bar that urges the bar away from the blade head. A coupling assembly releasably holds the blade assembly bar in the static state to the saw head. When the coupling assembly is in the run state, holding the blade assembly to the saw head, the coupling assembly does so in opposition to the force the biasing assembly exerts against the blade assembly bar. During the process of removing the blade assembly from the saw, the force of the biasing assembly assists in the removal of the blade assembly bar from the saw head.

A surgical sagittal saw blade with a static blade bar and to which a blade head is mounted. Distal from the proximal end of the blade bar, the sides of the bar taper outwardly. These outer taper sides facilitate the coupling of the blade bar to the complementary saw used to actuate the blade.

A surgical sagittal saw blade with a static blade bar shaped to be coupled to a sagittal saw. At least one drive rod extends through the bar. The drive rod is moveable within the blade bar. A blade crown, located outside the distal end opening of the blade bar is connected to the drive rod. The actuation of the drive rod by the saw results in the oscillation of the blade crown. Proximal to the distal end of the blade bar, the bar is formed with secondary openings. When the drive rod and blade crown are actuated, tissue entrained in the blade bar is discharged from the secondary openings.
