A transfer device includes a device body, and an articulated transfer platform. The articulated transfer platform include a distal platform segment and a plurality of intermediate platform segments. A distal locking mechanism is releasably securable to a locking mechanism of a lead intermediate platform segment, and locking mechanisms of successive intermediate platform segment are releasably securable to locking mechanisms of preceding intermediate platform segment. In a stowed position, the successive intermediate platform segments are positioned below the lead intermediate platform segment. In an extended position, the distal platform segment is located laterally away from the device body, the distal locking mechanism is secured to the locking mechanism of the lead intermediate platform segment, and the locking mechanism of a successive intermediate platform segment is secured to the locking mechanism of the lead intermediate platform segment.

Devices and methods for transferring an object

Disclosed is a transfer device having a device body, a transfer platform including a platform plate, and a platform lateral actuator. The platform lateral actuator is configured to selectively move the platform plate laterally relative to the device body, such that the platform plate can be moved between a plurality of positions including (i) a stowed position in which the platform plate is retracted relative to the device body, (ii) a first extended position in which a first transverse edge of the platform plate is a leading edge that extends outward from a first side of the device body, and (iii) a second extended position in which a second transverse edge of the platform plate is a leading edge that extends outward from a second side of the device body. The transfer device also a treatment system configured to apply a cleaning and/or disinfecting treatment.

Disclosed is a transfer device having a device body, a transfer platform including a platform plate, and a platform lateral actuator. The platform lateral actuator is configured to selectively move the platform plate laterally relative to the device body, such that the platform plate can be moved between a plurality of positions including (i) a stowed position in which the platform plate is retracted relative to the device body, (ii) a first extended position in which a first transverse edge of the platform plate is a leading edge that extends outward from a first side of the device body, and (iii) a second extended position in which a second transverse edge of the platform plate is a leading edge that extends outward from a second side of the device body. Device for harvesting direct sunlight, transmitting diffuse sunlight and for scattering light from a light source to provide illumination, including: a receiving layer including at least one solar energy collector and at least one light source; at least one optical component disposed on a first side of the receiving layer, the optical component including at least one plano-convex refracting element; a second optical component disposed on a second side of the receiving layer, the second optical component comprising at least one optical element; wherein the at least one plano-convex element is positioned to receive direct light and refract it towards the at least one optical element of the second optical component, and wherein the optical element is positioned to reflect light towards the solar energy collector; wherein the at least one optical element is positioned to refract and emit indirect light impinging thereon towards the exterior of the apparatus.
