Protective coverings herein have a coated woven material with a first edge parallel with a warp direction and a second edge opposite the first edge, and have a first edge band proximate the first edge and a second edge band proximate the second edge. The coated woven material has a woven scrim made of a plurality of weft tapes and a plurality of warp tapes, but the warp tapes positioned in the first and second edge bands are high-shrinkage warp tapes and the warp tapes positioned in between the first and second edge bands have a shrinkage that is less than a shrinkage of the high-shrinkage warp tapes, and has a coating on at least one major surface of the woven scrim. The plurality of high-shrinkage warp tapes shrink upon application of heat. Methods of covering a load, such as stacked lumber, with the protective covering are also disclosed.

Protective covering for wood products

Protective coverings are disclosed that have a scrim made up of warp and weft members that define a plurality of interstices coated on only a first major surface thereof by a multi-layer coating with a first layer of the multi-layer coating juxtaposed to the first major surface, and penetrating into the interstices of the scrim to co-define, with the warp and weft members, an opposing second major surface of the scrim. The first layer of the multi-layer coating has a melting point below 100&#xb0; C. and comprises a copolymer of ethylene, and provides the co-defined opposing second major surface of the scrim with a coefficient of friction of at least 0.5 when tested with dry leather and at least 0.7 when tested with dry rubber.

Scrim coated products having a coextruded multi-layer coating on one side thereof

Carrier films, adhesive tapes including the carrier film, hand tearable carton sealing tapes, and methods of making the same are described. The carrier films include a first layer of a polyethylene, and a second layer of a polypropylene coextruded therewith and biaxially oriented therewith. This carrier film has a first major surface and a second major surface. A pressure sensitive adhesive may be disposed on the first major surface of the carrier film to make an adhesive tape. The first major surface may be defined by the layer of polypropylene.

Carton sealing tape

An improved polyethylene fabric comprises polyethylene fabric or yarn that is manufactured by mixing HDPE (typically in pellet form) with pellets of cyclic-olefin polymers (COCs) in a ratio of up to 40% by weight of the layer. This mixture is then extruded in ways known to those skilled in the art. The resulting HDPE has superior stress and strain characteristics over a wider range of pressures and temperatures than conventional HDPE. The improved polyethylene fabric of the present invention is useful in applications where structural integrity is required and where pressure and temperature are a factor. For example, improved HDPE scrims of the present invention can be used as the reinforcing structure for irrigation hose or building fabric.

Polyethylene fabric with improved physical properties and method for making thereof

A roofing underlayment comprises a reinforcing layer, which is extrusion coated on at least one side with an anti-slip coating layer. Preferably, the reinforcing layer comprises a woven polyethylene or polypropylene scrim. The anti-slip coating layer comprises a compound based on a styrene and ethylene/butylene-styrene, S-E/B-S, block copolymer, such as the compound sold under the trademark KRATON&#xae; MD6649. The anti-slip coating layer is low in cost and helps prevent water from penetrating the primary roofing material. In addition, the anti-slip coating layer provides an improved anti-skid surface upon which an individual may safely walk.

Anti-slip roofing underlayment

A roofing underlayment comprises a reinforcing layer, which is extrusion coated on at least one side with an anti-slip coating layer. The reinforcing layer comprises a woven polyethylene or polypropylene scrim. The anti-slip coating layer comprises a compound based on a styrene and ethylene/butylene-styrene, S-E/B-S, block copolymer, such as the compound sold under the trademark KRATON&#xae; MD6649. The anti-slip coating layer may also be embossed. The anti-slip coating layer is low in cost and helps prevent water from penetrating the primary roofing material. In addition, the anti-slip coating layer provides an improved anti-skid surface upon which an individual may safely walk. Embossment improves the wet slip resistance of the roofing underlayment.

A failure resistant, flame retardant vapor barrier facing for insulation is disclosed. The facing is comprised of a coating and a backing. The coating comprises a pair of coextruded composites each composite comprised of FR material, UV blocking material, pigment material and a polyolefin (e.g., LDPE). The backing is a woven substrate woven from flame retardant polyolefin (e.g., HDPE) tapes. The woven substrate is laminated to building insulation using an adhesive. The woven substrate lends strength, flexibility and form to the facing.

Failure resistant flame retardant vapor barrier insulation facing

Multilayer shrink films and methods of making same that are substantially free of silicone. The multilayer shrink films of the invention are produced using film biaxial orienting means, have haze values of 5 or less and Young's modulus of 40,000 psi or greater and superior hot slip properties. Cyclic-olefin copolymer (COC) is used in the outermost layers to impart superior hot slip. Preferably the film comprises large proportion of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) or ethylene propylene butane terpolymer. Suitable COCs for use in the invention are limited to single site catalyzed COC.

Silicone-free multilayer shrink film for high speed packaging lines

A multilayer shrink film and methods of making same comprising high speed polyethylenic outer layers along with one or more cyclic-olefin copolymer (COC) containing inner layers. The multilayer shrink films of the invention are produced using film biaxial orienting means, have haze values of 5 or less and Young's modulus of 50,000 psi or greater and superior hot slip properties. In order to achieve the desired modulus, films of the present invention comprise from 10% to 30% COC and from 2% to 25% softening olefin copolymer. Preferably the film comprises large proportion of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE). Suitable COCs for use in the invention are limited to single site catalyzed COC.

Multilayer shrink film for high speed packaging lines

This invention relates to ungrounded type flexible fabric container with a reduced energy of electrostatic discharge suitable for use in a combustible environment. A woven fabric is configured to form a flexible fabric container having sidewalls, a top feature and a bottom feature. The woven fabric flexible bulk container is made from a static dissipating fabric comprising fabric woven of non-conductive tapes, to which a plurality of bicomponent conductive staple fibers are added. The bicomponent conductive staple fibers have one or more longitudinal stripes of a carbon loaded conductive constituent on an outer surface of a non-conductive constituent. Preferably the staple fibers are woven into or coated onto the fabric at a spacing of from 3 mm to 100 mm.

Anti-static woven flexible bulk container

A layered flame retardant system and method is disclosed comprising a first flame retardant stable layer for covering a solid combustible material and a second moisture protecting polyolefin stretch film layer. The polyolefin stretch film layer further compactly affixes the first flame retardant stable layer to the solid combustible material. Some embodiments incorporate a five layer flame retardant polyolefin stretch film with flame retardant additives primarily in the inner layers. Another embodiment incorporates thermal insulating material.

Multi-layered flame retardant wrap

A method of making an ungrounded type flexible fabric container with a reduced energy of electrostatic discharge for use in a combustible environment is provided. A woven fabric is configured to form a flexible fabric container having sidewalls, a closed end and an open end. The woven fabric made as from a static dissipating fabric comprising fabric woven of non-conductive tapes, to which a plurality of conductive staple fibers are woven into or coated onto the fabric at a spacing of from 3 mm to 100 mm.

Anti-static woven fabric and flexible bulk container

A polyolefin shrink film having high shrinkage and low shrink force. The film has a core layer formed from a polymer of ethylene with a melting point of greater than 100&deg; C., outer layers of a homopolymer of ethylene or propylene or an ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer. The film is not irradiated. The film may be used in the packaging of articles subject to breakage, distortion or deformation if packaged in shrink films with higher shrink force.

Multilayered polyolefin high shrinkage, low shrink force shrink film

A coated woven material comprising a layer of a woven scrim formed from a thermoplastic polymer in the form of at least one of fibres, filaments and tapes; and a coating on at least one side of said layer of an elastomeric polymer of ethylene and at least one hydrocarbon alpha-olefin comonomer of at least 4 carbon atoms. The elastomeric polymer has a glass transition temperature (T.sub.g) of less than -20.degree. C. and a brittleness temperature of less than -80.degree. C. The material is particularly useful as a transportation cover.
