A selective oxide-forming alloy, a coating formed from, and a machine component including the coating are provided. The selective oxide-forming alloy includes between atomic percent and 26 atomic percent silicon (Si), between 21 atomic percent and 27 atomic percent titanium (Ti), between 30 atomic percent and 39 atomic percent aluminum (Al), between 2 atomic percent and 10 atomic percent hafnium (Hf), and a balance of niobium (Nb).

Selective oxide-forming alloy, coating formed from and machine component including same

A series of alloys of Co, Ni, Al, W, Ta, and Cr, wherein the alloy comprises a solid solution of gamma and gamma prime alloy phases, the Ni content is greater than 25% at. %, the Al content is greater than 10 at. %, the Cr content is greater than 2 at. %, and the Ni:Co ratio is between 0.5 and 1.5. In one or more examples, the alloy further comprises one or more of C, B, and a reactive element metal. Embodiments of the alloy simultaneously possess a high solvus temperature, a high fraction of the strengthening &#x3b3;'-L1phase, good oxidation resistance and highly favorable solidification characteristics.

High temperature oxidation resistant co-based gamma/gamma prime alloys DMREF-Co

Carbide-forming elements are added to nickel-based superalloys so as to minimize grain defects, such as freckle and stray grain defects. More specifically, carbide-forming elements that form from the liquid in the mushy zone of the solidification front of single crystal (SC) and directionally solidified (DS) nickel-based superalloys are added so as to reduce the formation of freckle and stray grain defects in such alloys. A preferred nickel-based superalloy includes, by weight, between about 6.00%-9.25% tantalum, 4.75%-6.50% tungsten, at least about 2.75% rhenium, between about 5.00% to about 7.00% aluminum, at least about 0.10% hafnium and carbon in an amount sufficient (typically between about 0.10-0.15% by weight) to form carbides with other constituents to reduce significantly freckle formation in the mushy zone of the superalloy during casting.

A nickel base superalloy capable of being made into a single crystal article is provided with high temperature strength and improved stability by limiting the presence of an undesirable SRZ constituent. Significant to the control of formation of such undesirable constituents is the control of the amount of Re in the alloy in combination with elements such as Al, Cr, Ta, Mo, Co and W. A solution heat treatment is provided for additional control.
