A system and method for maintaining communications with a radio frequency (RF) peripheral device such as an RF input device and an RF output device. A computer may search for an RF peripheral device by transmitting a signal request on available channels until a response is received from an RF peripheral device. If the RF channel becomes busy and/or jammed, the RF peripheral device may tune into a predetermined channel while the computer scans for another channel to use. Once the computer finds a better channel, the computer may go to the predetermined channel and broadcast the new channel location to the RF peripheral device. In addition, if an RF signal arrives incomplete or corrupt, the computer may transmit a negative acknowledgement to the RF peripheral device, which may retransmit the previous RF signal.

An interface chip is disclosed. In one embodiment, an interface chip includes a processor coupled to an internal data bus and an internal address bus. A plurality of interfaces, including at least on serial interface and at least one parallel interface are also coupled to the processor via the internal address bus and the internal data bus. The interface chip also includes data movement circuitry, wherein the data movement circuitry is configured for transmitting data between a first of the plurality of interfaces and a second of the plurality of interfaces using time division multiplexing.

System and method for data transmission

A programmable electronic lock is provided. The electronic lock described herein employs many programmable features which enable a user to tailor lock functions for appropriate levels of security and convenience. The features are enabled and tailored via a set of operating parameters stored in an operating parameters data base within the lock. A lockable device employing the present lock may achieve levels of security and flexibility greater than those achieved utilizing conventional locks. Several of the features included in the lock are a timelock early feature for securing the lock prior to a programmed locking time; an idle key life feature for deactivating idle keys from the lock; a variable PIN code requirement structure for convenience and security; and a deposit logging feature for deposit doors.

Programmable electronic lock

A remote access system remotely accesses one or more electronic locks from a locally placed computer. The computer includes a key receptacle electrically coupled to the computer. The key receptacle allows ingress of a key, whereupon insertion of the key and login permission granted allows access of the computer to an electronic lock via a communication channel. The electronic lock is mechanically, electrically and functionally connected to activate and deactivate a locking mechanism of a lockable device. According to one arrangement, the computer is connected to the electronic lock via the communication channel to allow the user remote login to the electronic lock. The user located remote from the lock may therefore operate the lock from the remote location.
