This is directed to connecting two or more elements using an intermediate element constructed from a material that changes between states. An electronic device can include one or more components constructed by connecting several elements. To provide a connection having a reduced or small size or cross-section and construct a component having high tolerances, a material can be provided in a first state in which it flows between the elements before changing to a second state in which it adheres to the elements and provides a structurally sound connection. For example, a plastic can be molded between the elements. As another example, a composite material can be brazed between the elements. In some cases, internal surfaces of the elements can include one or more features for enhancing a bond between the elements and the material providing the interface between the elements.

High tolerance connection between elements

Exosuit systems and methods according to various embodiments are described herein. The exosuit system can be a suit that is worn by a wearer on the outside of his or her body. It may be worn under the wearer's normal clothing, over their clothing, between layers of clothing, or may be the wearer's primary clothing itself. The exosuit may be assistive, as it physically assists the wearer in performing particular activities, or can provide other functionality such as communication to the wearer through physical expressions to the body, engagement of the environment, or capturing of information from the wearer.

Exosuit systems and methods

A consumer terminal for a point-of-sale (POS) system used in performing a POS transaction between a merchant and a consumer. The consumer terminal includes a touch screen display having a touch panel, a secure processor in a physically secure area and a main processor in a non-secure area. The main processor is configured to display a series of screens to guide a consumer through the POS transaction. Upon receiving a request for secure data from the main processor, the secure processor instructs the main processor to exit pass-through mode and enter a secure touch mode. Upon a determination that the request for secure data is complete, the secure processor instructs the main processor to exit secure touch mode and return to pass-through mode.

Point-of-sale system having a secure touch mode

A point-of-sale (POS) system used in performing a POS transaction between a merchant and a consumer. The POS system includes a display having a touch panel, a main processor and a memory device. The POS system also includes a secure enclave with a secure processor and a microcontroller. The main processor is configured to display a series of screens to guide a consumer through the POS transaction. The microcontroller provides the inputs from the touch panel to the main processor when the POS system is operated in a pass-through mode and provides the inputs from the touch panel to the secure processor when the POS system is operated in a secure touch mode.

An electronic device having a unitary housing is disclosed. The device can include a first housing component having an open cavity, an internal electronic part disposed within the cavity, a second housing component disposed across the cavity, and a support feature disposed within the cavity and arranged to support the second housing component. The first housing component can be formed from metal, while the second housing component can be formed from a plurality of laminated foil metal layers. The second housing component can be attached to the first housing component via one or more ultrasonic welds, such that a fully enclosed housing is created. The fully enclosed housing can be hermetically sealed, and the outside surfaces thereof can be machined or otherwise finished after the ultrasonic welding.

Unitary housing for electronic device

A consumer terminal for a point-of-sale (POS) system used in performing a POS transaction between a merchant and a consumer. The consumer terminal includes a display, a touch panel, first electronics in a physically secure area and second electronics in a non-secure area. The first electronics are configured to display a series of screens to guide a consumer through the POS transaction. The second electronics comprises a microcontroller and a secure processor. Upon receiving a request for secure data from the non-secure processor, the secure processor sends a notification to the non-secure processor to exit pass-through mode and enter a secure touch mode. Upon completion of PIN entry, the secure processor instructs non-secure processor to exit secure touch mode and return to pass-through mode.

A tamper-proof computing device used in conducting a point-of-sale transaction. The tamper-proof computing device comprises a touch-screen display. In some embodiments, an ITO layer is deposited on the touch-screen display that has a tamper line embedded in the ITO layer, such that the tamper line is susceptible to breaking upon unauthorized physical manipulation, and the tamper line is in communication with a microcontroller that is configured to detect the tamper, and to render the tamper-proof computing device inoperable. The tamper line can be a single line trace embedded in the ITO layer or a cluster of traces embedded in the ITO layer. A method of manufacturing comprises forming a tamper line in an ITO layer, depositing the ITO layer on the display and coupling the tamper line to a security microcontroller.

An electronic device may include a ring-shaped housing member defining an interior volume. The ring-shaped housing member may be configured to receive electronic device components. The ring-shaped housing member may include a first element comprising an angled region, and a second element comprising an angled region. A first intermediate element may be placed between the first and second elements, where the intermediate element is secured to internal surfaces of each of the first and second elements such that the first and second elements do not overlap. The first intermediate element may fasten the first and second elements to one another, and electrically isolate the first and second elements from one another.

An electronic device may have buttons, a display, and a vibrator unit. Buttons may be included in electronic devices such as glass buttons, metal buttons, buttons that are assembled on printed circuit boards, and buttons that are partly formed from antenna structures. Button coatings may be used to improve the sliding performance of metal-on-metal buttons. A layer of polymer may be interposed between a button plate and a housing structure. A glass button member may have an underside on which a layer of patterned ink is formed. Elastomeric members may be used to reduce button rattle. Portions of a button may be provided with conductive features that form portions of an antenna.
