A method for installing a production string in a wellbore and a production assembly for deployment in a wellbore are disclosed. An upper completion portion including a tubular and an upper circulation valve and a lower completion portion including a screen assembly and a lower circulation valve are together deployed into a wellbore at the same time. The upper circulation valve is movable between a closed position to block fluid communication between the interior and the exterior of the tubular and an open position to establish fluid communication between the interior and the exterior of the tubular. The lower circulation valve is movable between an open position to establish fluid communication between the interior and the exterior of a base pipe deployed adjacent the screen assembly and a closed position to block fluid communication between the interior and the exterior of the base pipe.

One trip completion assembly system and method

A sand control screen assembly includes a base pipe defining one or more flow ports that provide fluid communication into an interior of the base pipe. A sand screen is arranged about an exterior of the base pipe and thereby defines a production annulus between the exterior of the base pipe and the sand screen. A prepack porous media is positioned in and fills the production annulus. A flow collector is positioned within at least one of the one or more flow ports and provides a retainer and a mass of porous media positioned within the retainer.

Prepacked sand screen assemblies

A screen assembly can include a tracer retaining mechanism for retaining a tracer in an annular area defined between a screen portion and a base pipe. The tracer retaining mechanism can be coupled to the screen portion, the base pipe, or the tracer. The tracer retaining mechanism can allow fluid flow in and out of the annular area.

Certain aspects and features of the present invention are directed to an isolation assembly that can be disposed in a wellbore through a fluid-producing formation. The isolation assembly can include one joint of a tubing section, at least two inflow control devices, and an isolation element. The joint of the tubing section can include at least two ports. Each inflow control device can be coupled to the tubing section at a respective port. The isolation element can be positioned between the inflow control devices. The isolation element can be configured to fluidly isolate the ports from each other.

Disclosed are flow distribution assemblies for distributing fluid flow through well screens. One flow distribution assembly includes a bulkhead arranged about a base pipe having one or more flow ports and defining flow conduits in fluid communication with the flow ports, a sand screen arranged about the base pipe and extending axially from the bulkhead, a flow annulus defined between the sand screen and the base pipe, and flow tubes fluidly coupled to the flow conduits and extending axially from the bulkhead within the flow annulus, the flow tubes being configured to place an interior of the base pipe in fluid communication with the flow annulus via the flow ports, wherein the flow tubes distribute a fluid through the at least one sand screen at a plurality of axial locations within the flow annulus.

Flow distribution assemblies for preventing sand screen erosion

A well production and injection string includes a plurality of spaced apart packers each adapted to seal with a wall of the wellbore. A plurality of flow control devices are provided in the string, distributed between pairs of adjacent packers. The flow control devices are adapted to communicate flow between an interior and an exterior of the string with less restriction to flow from the interior to the exterior of the string than to flow from the exterior to the interior of the string.

Controlled production and injection

An underwater well is completed by extending an elongate stinger laterally outward from a vessel positioned at the water surface. The stinger is extended to curve downward toward a wellhead of the well. A well completion string is deployed from the vessel on the stinger while supporting the completing string to curve outward and downward from the vessel toward the wellhead. The completion string is then guided into the wellhead.

The method includes providing a sand control screen assembly () having a filter medium (), the filter medium () having pores therein, flowing a slurry containing particles through the filter medium () of the sand control screen assembly () and bridging the particle across the pores to form a particle coating () on the filter medium (), thereby protecting of the filter medium () during installation, enabling transportation of reactive materials to a desired wellbore location and enabling circulation of fluid through the sand control screen assembly ().

Well tools utilizing swellable materials. Actuators for well tools may incorporate swellable materials as force generating devices. A well tool includes an actuator which actuates the well tool in response to contact between a swellable material and a well fluid. A method of actuating a well tool includes the steps of: installing a well tool including an actuator; contacting a swellable material of the actuator with a well fluid; and actuating the well tool in response to the contacting step. A well system includes a well tool with a flow control device and a swellable material. The well tool is operative to control flow through a passage of a tubular string in response to contact between the swellable material and well fluid.

Inflow control devices for sand control screens. A well screen includes a filter portion and at least two flow restrictors configured in series, so that fluid which flows through the filter portion must flow through each of the flow restrictors. At least two tubular flow restrictors may be configured in series, with the flow restrictors being positioned so that fluid which flows through the filter portion must reverse direction twice to flow between the flow restrictors. A method of installing a well screen includes the step of accessing a flow restrictor by removing a portion of an inflow control device of the screen.

A gravel packing screen with an inflow control device and a bypass. A well screen includes a flow restricting device for restricting inward flow through the screen, and a bypass device for increasing a proportion of the inward flow which passes through the flow restricting device, the bypass device including a material which swells in response to contact between the material and fluid in a well. A method of gravel packing a well includes installing a screen in the well, the screen including a flow restricting device which restricts flow through the screen, and a bypass device for selectively permitting relatively unrestricted flow through the screen; and actuating the bypass device in response to contact between a material of the bypass device and fluid in the well, thereby increasingly restricting flow through the screen. Flow through the flow restricting device and flow through the bypass device may be in parallel.

A sand control screen assembly for use in a wellbore includes a tubular base pipe having a first perforated section. The first perforated section has at least a first opening that allows fluid flow therethrough. The assembly also includes an internal seal element disposed within an internal diameter of the tubular base pipe and positioned at least partially overlapping the first perforated section. The internal seal element is able to control fluid flow through the first opening. The internal seal element includes a first material that is dissolvable by a first solvent, and may be dissolved by exposing the internal seal element to the first solvent until the internal seal element no longer controls fluid flow through the first opening.

A sand control completion () for installation in a wellbore () includes first and second packers () that define a first zone () in the wellbore (). A production tubing () extends substantially through the first zone (). An apparatus () and method for treating an interval of a wellbore comprises an outer tubular () disposed within the wellbore. A sand control screen () is disposed within the outer tubular (). A treatment fluid passageway () is formed between the sand control screen () and outer tubular (). In addition, a production pathway () is formed between the sand control screen () and outer tubular (). When the apparatus () is in an operable position, the region between the outer tubular () and the wellbore serves as a primary path for delivery of a treatment fluid, the production pathway () serves as a secondary path for delivery of the treatment fluid if the primary path becomes blocked and the treatment fluid passageway () serves as a tertiary path for delivery of the treatment fluid if the primary and secondary paths become blocked.
