A vehicle includes a removable roof panel and an integrated handle and roof rack assembly mounted to the removable roof panel. The integrated handle and roof rack assembly is adapted to function both as a handle for installing or removing the roof panel and as a roof rack for achieving vehicle rooftop cargo storage.

A removable roof rail assembly for a motor vehicle includes a roof rail and latch assembly for securing the roof rail to the motor vehicle. The latch assembly includes a push button actuator to conveniently and efficiently release the latch assembly and allow one to remove the roof rail from the motor vehicle. A related method for selectively securing a roof rail to and removing a roof rail from the motor vehicle is also provided.

An apparatus is for use with a pillar adjacent to a vehicle window, such as a windshield. The apparatus includes a molding for positioning adjacent to the pillar, the molding forming a channel in a deployed condition for receiving moisture from the vehicle windshield, or for reducing the effects of wind throb when a single vehicle window is open. An actuator may be associated with the molding for activating a non-deployed condition of the molding for reducing the effects of wind noise. The molding may include a passage for receiving an airflow and transmitting it to an outlet for directing fluid away from the molding, the pillar and adjacent side window. In the deployed condition, the molding may project from a surface of the pillar and in the non-deployed condition may be substantially flush with the surface of the pillar.

A guard for a vehicle includes a support tube. A pivoting step includes a pivot tube portion movable about the support tube between a stowed position and a deployed position and a step portion. A spring member is disposed between the support tube and pivot tube biasing the pivot tube toward one of the stowed position and deployed position.

An illumination apparatus for a vehicle is disclosed. The illumination apparatus comprise a light source disposed on a step portion. A first coating layer is molded over the step portion and the light source. A photoluminescent portion is disposed proximate a tread portion of the step portion. The light source is configured to emit a first emission to excite the photoluminescent portion to emit a second emission.

A vehicle roof rack assembly comprises a pair of rails defining retention channels therein. A locking slot is disposed on an inboard surface of the rails and is in communication with the retention channels. The rook rack assembly further comprises a crossbar having a rotatable locking cam with retention tabs. The locking cam is designed to frictionally engage the locking slot during rotation and the retention tabs are adapted to extend into the retention channels, thereby securing the crossbar to the rails.

A control mechanism for a powered running board on an automotive vehicle, such as a sport utility vehicle, utilizes the memory function of the vehicle to store therein established operating positions for the running board. The user or occupant of the vehicle can manually position the powered running board to a convenient operating position within a range of available operating positions on the vehicle. By storing the selected position of the running board in the memory function of the vehicle, the control mechanism can return to that same operating height each time the occupant seeks to use the running board for entry or exit of the vehicle. The control mechanism is operable with different configurations of running boards and with different power devices for effecting the movement of the running board.

An apparatus to assist an operator in loading a bicycle onto a substantially vertical bicycle rack attached to an automotive vehicle, includes a base that attaches to the upper portion of the bicycle rack, and a substantially U-shaped hook, having one end that pivots at its base end and having another end that engages the inner rim portion of bicycle wheel when the bicycle is lifted into the proximity of the upper portion of the bicycle rack. The present apparatus and method of loading of a bicycle assists an operator in loading a bicycle by fully supporting the weight of the bicycle while the operator positions and secures the bicycle to the bicycle rack for transport.

An extendable support mechanism for a cargo bed of a pickup truck or the like. One or more support members are attached to opposite sides of the cargo bed and adapted to be positioned vertically upwardly from the cargo bed in order to support a tent-like structure or an object which is also positioned in part on the cab of the vehicle. Preferably, three tubular support members are provided in the support mechanism. Each of the tubular members are comprised of two telescopic members and are extendable in order to vary the height of the support member in the vertical direction in order to be used to hold members on the top of the vehicle. The support mechanism can be attached to an articulating bracket member which allows the support member also to be used as a cargo bed extender when desired, and also to be rotated to a stored position inside the cargo bed. In an alternate embodiment, the support members are held in vertical position on the sides of the cargo bed by fixed bracket members.
