Embodiments of golf club heads with energy storage characteristics are presented herein. In some embodiments, a golf club head comprises a hollow body comprising a strikeface, a heel region, a toe region opposite the heel region, a sole, a crown, and a cavity positioned behind the strikeface on at least one of the sole and the crown. In many embodiments, the cavity comprises a front surface, and a rear surface, wherein at least a portion of the front surface extends toward the strikeface of the club head.

Golf club heads with energy storage characteristics

Described herein are embodiments of golf club heads with slits and flexure inserts. The slit comprises an opening through the club head body communicating between the exterior of the club head and the hollow interior cavity. The flexure insert can comprise a spring component and a cap. The spring component creates a spring effect within the flexure insert that increases the internal energy of the club head at impact, leading to improvements in ball speed and other golf ball performance characteristics.

Embodiments of a multi-material wood-type golf club head comprising a tuning element to damp dominant vibrations are described herein. The multi-material wood-type club head comprises a first, metallic component forming the striking face, and portions of the crown, the heel, the toe, and sole, and a second, non-metallic component forming a majority of the crown and portions of the heel, toe, and sole. The club head further comprises a tuning element secured to the interior surface of the crown, wherein the tuning element damps the amplitude vibration at a vibration hotspot in the club head by between 1-7 decibels.

The front body includes a strike face and a surrounding frame that extends rearward from a perimeter of the strikeface. The rear body includes a crown member coupled with a sole member. The sole member can have a structural layer formed from a filled thermoplastic material. The crown member can have structural layer and/or a resilient layer. The structural and resilient layers can be formed from fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite material. The sole member has an opening through which a metallic weight pad at least partially extends. The weight pad is bonded to the structural layer and includes an aperture for attaching a metallic weight.

A driver-type golf club head comprising a cube-like body shape, wherein a ratio between the body height and the body depth is between 0.5 and 0.75, and a ratio between the body height and the body width is between 0.5 and 0.75. The golf club head further comprises a mass distribution wherein a large portion of the club head mass is located within a central mass zone centered about the Y'-axis. The golf club head further comprises an Ixx and an Iyy moment of inertia, wherein and Ixx/Iyy ratio is greater than 0.8. In many embodiments, the golf club head further comprises optimized bulge and roll curvatures determined by the Ixx, Iyy, CG position, coefficient of restitution, and/or other characteristics.

A hollow golf club head includes a metallic front body coupled with a composite rear body. The front body includes a strike face and a surrounding frame that extends rearward from a perimeter of the strikeface. The rear body includes a crown member coupled with a sole member. The sole member has a structural layer formed from a filled thermoplastic material, while the resilient layer is bonded to the external surface of the structural layer and is formed from a fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite material. The resilient layer has an opening through which a metallic weight pad at least partially extends. The weight pad is bonded to the structural layer and includes an aperture for attaching a metallic weight. The golf club head can also have one or more structural members that are upright and connect the weight pad to the crown member.

Some embodiments include a golf club head. The golf club head includes a front body having a front body front portion with a front body front surface and having a front body rear portion, and includes a rear body having a rear body front portion, a rear body rear portion, and multiple protrusions. The golf club head is configured such that (i) when the front body front surface strikes a golf ball with a first amount of force, the front body deflects toward the rear body with a first amount of deflection, and (ii) when the front body front surface strikes the golf ball with a second amount of force less than the first amount of force, the front body deflects toward the rear body with a second amount of deflection greater than the first amount of deflection. Other embodiments of related club heads and methods are also disclosed.

A golf club has a first shaft coupled to a club head, a second shaft configured to slidably engage a portion of the first shaft, a grip coupled to the second shaft, and an adjustable length shaft assembly received by the second shaft and configured to allow a portion of the first shaft to slide in relation to the second shaft in a first configuration, and to restrict a portion of the first shaft from sliding in relation to the second shaft in a second configuration. The grip is restricted from rotation about the first shaft or the second shaft as the first shaft slides in relation to the second shaft.

The inflection point provides increase bending of the strikeface thereby providing performance enhancement over clubs without an inflection point.

Embodiments of golf club heads comprising a club face with a variable thickness profile to adjust stiffness and characteristic time (CT) are described herein. The variable thickness profile comprises strategically positioned thickened and thinned regions. In many embodiments, variable thickness profile can taper from a thickened region to a thinned region. The thickened region can comprise a maximum thickness of the club face, and the thinned region can comprise a minimum thickness of the club face. The variable thickness profiles described in this disclosure increase stiffness in a high toe area of the club face and decrease stiffness in a heel area of the club face.

Golf club heads with improved characteristic time

Embodiments of golf club heads having weights with two or more parts are described herein. The weight with two or more parts described herein provides a series of interchangeable parts of the overall weight to increase or decrease the weight to specific integers of weight. The two or more parts can comprise a first part with a first specific gravity and a second part with a second specific gravity. The second specific gravity is greater than the first specific gravity.

Embodiments of a golf club head having an adjustable weight system. The golf club head having a single, relatively compact channel for receiving a weight assembly. The channel does not comprise any threaded bores in or through the walls of the channel. The weight assembly comprises a single weight and a screw. The weight comprises a threaded bore configured to receive the screw. The channel further comprises notches and locating features to position the weight in distinct, prescribed positions. The locating features, notches, and screw are concentric to one another in a final, assembled configuration.

Described herein is a tour iron having a golf club head with a faceplate, a body, and an insert. A sole, top rail, rear, and the faceplate enclose a cavity within the body. The cavity can house the insert. The insert can comprise a low-density material, allowing weight to be concentrated around the peripheral edge of the golf club head. The rear of the golf club head has an inflection seam running from the heel to the toe. The golf club head has an upper portion, above the inflection seam and a lower portion below the inflection seam. The lower portion can have a depth greater that the upper portion depth. The faceplate, body, and insert can be formed of different materials having different densities. The golf club head has a comparatively high moment of inertia and a low center of gravity. Other embodiments and methods are described herein.
