Systems and methods for determining an optimum number of PV modules and predicting energy generation for a solar photovoltaic (PV) system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method is provided that includes receiving an address and zip code of a proposed installation site, and displaying an image of the proposed installation site. The method includes receiving an input identifying a mounting plane on the image, displaying the mounting plane, determining an optimum number of PV modules that would fit within the mounting plane, and displaying the optimum number of PV modules on the mounting plane. The method includes sending a request for roof pitch data for neighboring sites within the zip code, receiving the roof pitch data, determining an average roof pitch based on the roof pitch data, and predicting PV generation based on the number of PV modules in the mounting plane and the average roof pitch.

In one example embodiment the present invention includes a computer-implemented method comprising storing design automation data on a mobile device, displaying a plurality of design automation process steps to a user, the plurality of design automation process steps guiding the user through a design automation process for a project, receiving design automation input data from the user in the mobile device for a plurality of the design automation process steps, executing one or more data processing algorithms specific to at least one of the design automation process steps, and generating output data for the design project.

Systems and methods for facilitating the electrical design of an energy generation system. In one embodiment, a method is provided that can comprise receiving, by a computer system from a user, first information pertaining to an energy generation system to be installed at a customer site. The method can further comprise determining an electrical design for installing the energy generation system at the customer site, where the determining is based on the first information, second information retrieved from one or more external data sources, an electrical data model, and a decision tree that models the electrical design process. An installation diagram can then be generated that illustrates the determined electrical design.
