An implantable electrical stimulation device includes an electrically conductive electrode structure configured for coupling with a pulse generator device and transmitting an electrical signal configured to generate a desirable electric field around a target tissue. The electrode structure includes a porous substrate constructed of a bio-compatible and bio-survivable material having a structure that mimics extracellular matrix embedding. The porous substrate supports an electrically conductive electrode element. The implantable device may further include a pulse generator also embedded, enmeshed, and supported within the porous substrate.

Methods, devices and systems for improving pelvic floor dysfunction in a patient suffering therefrom by electrically modulating neural tissue in a minimally invasive fashion using an electrical microstimulator are provided. Methods include inserting an electrical microstimulator having a re-deployable fixation member through skin of a patient's leg and advancing the electrical microstimulator through the skin along tissue of a surgical pathway to an area of the patient's leg. A target implant site can be identified that is above deep fascia and below the skin and that is adjacent to a target nerve associated with pelvic floor function. The electrical microstimulator can be anchored to the target implant site via the re-deployable fixation member or re-positioned, if necessary. A therapy electrical signal can be delivered to the target nerve from the target implant site.

Devices, systems, and methods for improving pelvic floor dysfunction

According to one aspect, a stimulation system is provided for electrically stimulating a predetermined site to treat a neurological condition. The system includes an electrical stimulation lead adapted for implantation into a subcutaneous area in communication with a predetermined site, wherein the site is neuronal tissue that is associated with C2/C3 dermatome area, or stimulating cervical nerve roots and/or stimulating cranial nerves and/or stimulating any area associated with the occipital area. The stimulation lead includes one or more stimulation electrodes adapted to be positioned in the predetermined site. The system also includes a stimulation source that generates the stimulation pulses for transmission to the one or more stimulation electrodes of the stimulation lead to deliver the stimulation pulses to the predetermined site to treat a neurological disorder or condition.

In one embodiment, a system for electrically stimulating neural tissue of a patient and for determining neurotransmitter release in response to stimulation, the system comprises: pulse generating circuitry for generating electrical pulses; at least one electrical lead for conducting electrical pulses generated by the pulse generating circuitry to neural tissue, the at least one electrical lead comprising a plurality of electrodes; at least one electrochemical sensor for sensing an extracellular level of one or several neurotransmitters; circuitry for sampling a signal from the at least one electrochemical sensor; a controller for automatically applying stimulation to neural tissue using a plurality of electrode combinations, the controller generating data related to neurotransmitter release for each of the plurality of electrode combinations; and a display for displaying neurotransmitter release for electrode combinations to a clinician.

The present invention relates to a method of identifying a region of the brain by measuring neuronal firing and/or local field potentials by recording discharges from at least one implanted electrode and analyzing the recording of the discharges within the beta frequency band range to determine an area of beta oscillatory activity. Once the region of the brain is identified, this region may be stimulated to disrupt the beta oscillatory activity thereby treating a movement disorder.

Stimulation system and method for treating a neurological disorder

A stimulation system includes a stimulation source, an implantable stimulation lead, an implantable sensing device, and a controller. The stimulation source generates and transmits stimulation pulses to stimulation electrodes on the stimulation lead. The stimulation electrodes deliver the stimulation pulses to target nerve tissue in a nerve pathway to cause paresthesia in a portion of the person's body. Each stimulation pulse induces an action potential in a number of nerve fibers in the nerve pathway. The sensing device includes sensing electrodes positioned proximate the nerve pathway that detect compound action potentials of nerve fibers stimulated by the stimulation pulses. The controller modifies the stimulation pulses generated by the stimulation source and delivered to the target nerve tissue by the stimulation electrodes based on the detected compound action potentials to maintain a substantially constant level of paresthesia in the portion of the person's body.
