A method for modeling borehole effects of a transverse array induction tool includes selecting a formation-borehole model having a set of parameters, wherein the set of parameters comprises a direction of tool eccentering; determining initial values for the set of parameters; computing expected responses for a selected set of arrays from the plurality of arrays of the induction tool, wherein the computing is based on the formation-borehole model; comparing the expected responses with actual responses for the selected set of arrays; adjusting values of the set of parameters, if a difference between the expected responses and the actual responses is no less than a predetermined criterion; repeating the computing, the comparing, and the adjusting, until the difference between the expected responses and the actual responses is less than the predetermined criterion; determining the borehole effects from final values of the set of parameters.

Method of correcting triaxial induction arrays for borehole effect

A method for producing borehole-compensated values from non-borehole-compensated measurement signals taken with a logging device in a borehole in earth formations, includes the following steps: producing a database that includes a multiplicity of data points, each data point representing a combination of formation parameters and borehole parameters, database input vectors representing multi-dimensional non-borehole-compensated model measurement values respectively associated with the data points, and database output vectors representing multi-dimensional borehole-compensated model measurement values respectively associated with the data points; deriving a multi-dimensional measurement signal vector from measurement signals taken with the logging device in the borehole; and interpolating the measurement signal vector using the database to obtain an interpolated output vector representative of borehole-compensated measurement signals.

Method for determining borehole corrections for well-logging tools

The present invention relates generally to a method and apparatus for evaluating the resistivity of invaded formations at high apparent dip angle. A multi-array induction tool having a plurality of arrays is disposed in a borehole. Signals from a subset of coils of the array are selected to probe different volumes of the formation surrounding the borehole. The maximum entropy method is used to process data from the subset of coils to effectively remove distortions produced by shoulder and dip effect in the presence of shallow, moderate, or deep invasion. An advantage of the invention is a computer program that accurately predicts the response of induction arrays in an assumed layered formation with dip. After processing the data, the resulting multi-array induction log will indicate a conductivity profile for the subset of coils which is substantially identical to that of an array in a thick bed, without dip or layering, with the same invasion profile. A 1D radial inversion of the resulting logs at each point in depth will give a closer estimate of the actual formation parameters, R.sub.xo, R.sub.t, and the invasion radius.
