The present disclosure provides a surgical implant device, including: a solid surface; and a lattice structure disposed adjacent to the solid surface, wherein the lattice structure includes a first plurality of struts that define a first plurality of voids adjacent to the solid surface and a second plurality of struts that define a second plurality of voids remote from the solid surface. Each of the first plurality of struts has an average cross-sectional diameter that is smaller than an average cross-sectional diameter of each of the second plurality of struts. Each of the first plurality of voids has an average internal diameter that is smaller than an average internal diameter of each of the second plurality of voids. The surgical implant device also includes a needle-populated porous surface disposed adjacent to the solid surface opposite the lattice structure.

Surgical implant device incorporating a lattice volume and associated method of manufacture

A surgical implant device, including: an implant body; a porous layer disposed adjacent to the implant body, wherein the porous layer includes a lattice of intersecting struts; and a plurality of needle structures protruding from the porous layer opposite the implant body, wherein at least some of the plurality of needle structures traverse the porous layer and are anchored to the implant body. The plurality of needle structures that traverse the porous layer and are anchored to the implant body are coupled to one or more intersecting struts of the lattice. Optionally, some of the plurality of needle structures are spaced apart from the implant body and are anchored only to the porous layer. Preferably, one or more of the implant body, the porous layer, and the plurality of needle structures are formed by an additive manufacturing technique.

Surgical implant devices incorporating porous surfaces and associated method of manufacture

A surgical implant device, comprising: a body portion; and one or more surfaces comprising a plurality of protruding structures; wherein the body portion and the one or more surfaces comprising the plurality of protruding structures are integrally formed. The one or more surfaces comprising the plurality of protruding structures are formed by an additive manufacturing process. The plurality of protruding structures comprise a plurality of needles. Optionally, the surgical implant device comprises one of an anterior lumbar interbody fusion cage, a posterior lumbar interbody fusion cage, a transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion cage, an oblique lumbar interbody fusion cage, a cervical cage, and a bone screw.

Surgical implant devices incorporating porous surfaces

The present invention provides a bone screw or bone anchor, such as a threaded pedicle screw or the like, incorporating a porous surface for enhancing bony fixation, ingrowth, and purchase when implanted in bone. Preferably, this porous surface covers at least a portion of the threads of the bone screw or bone anchor. The porous surface is formed by a conventional or novel additive manufacturing process, such as three-dimensional (3D) printing or the like, optionally as well as a prior and/or subsequent machining process. The porous surface may include novel needle-like protrusions and/or lattice structures, and/or any other protruding/depressed features, whether regular or irregular.

Bone screw incorporating a porous surface formed by an additive manufacturing process

A surgical implant device, comprising: a body portion defining a plurality of ports; a plurality of bone screws disposed partially through the plurality of ports defined by the body portion; a locking plate disposed over a head portion of at least one of the plurality of bone screws and engaging a plurality of recesses manufactured into a side of the body portion; and a screw operable for compressing the locking plate against the side of the body portion. Surgical implant devices incorporating porous surfaces and a locking plate

A surgical plate device that incorporates a screw locking mechanism in each screw hole by which the surgical plate device is affixed to a bony segment. The screw locking mechanism includes a tab structure emanating from an interior portion (or either surface) of the surgical plate that is biased into a portion of the corresponding screw hole. When a screw is inserted into the screw hole, the head of the screw temporarily biases the tab structure out of the screw hole, until the head of the screw passes below the plane of the tab structure, at which point the tab structure rebounds into the previously occupied portion of the screw hole, thereby covering a portion of the head of the screw and preventing it from 'backing out.'

Medical device locking mechanisms and related methods and systems. In some embodiments, the medical device may comprise an outer surface defining one or more fastener openings configured for receiving one or more fasteners. The one or more fasteners may comprise an upper surface configured to be engaged by a component of the locking system to prevent fastener backout. A plurality of petal structures may be configured to be selectively expanded or contracted to engage the head portion and retain the at least one fastener within the fastener opening to prevent the fastener from backing out of the fastener opening. A biasing member may selectively engage the plurality of petal structures to either expand or contract the plurality of petal structures to facilitate locking the fastener(s) in place within the device.

Biomedical implant fastener systems, such as bone screw systems and the like. In some embodiments, a fastener may comprise a first plurality of teeth, and a washer configured to be received on the fastener may comprise a second plurality of teeth configured to be engaged with the first plurality of teeth. The first plurality of teeth may be configured to engage with the second plurality of teeth such that so as to allow for selective rotation between the washer and the fastener in a first rotational direction and so as to prevent rotation between the washer and the fastener in a second rotational direction opposite from the first rotational direction when the fastener is engaged with the washer such that second plurality of teeth is engaged with the first plurality of teeth so as to prevent the fastener from backing out of the washer after engagement.

In a rod fixation system of the type used to treat various spinal conditions, the same fastener is used to lock both a polyaxial screw and a rod in position. A spinal correction device according to the invention, adapted for use with a rod and a polyaxial screw having a ball-shaped head and a threaded end, comprises a head-body and a cap. The head-body includes a lower internal cavity to receive the ball-shaped head of the screw, an upper bore to receive a fixation rod therethrough, and an upper end configured to receive the cap. The head-body and the cap are configured such that a first rotation of the cap locks the polyaxial screw in position, and a second rotation of the cap locks the rod in position. In the preferred embodiment, the head-body includes one or more gaps to facilitate flexion of the head-body as a rotational torque is placed on the cap. The gap or gaps may be horizontal, vertical or other angles relative to the axis of the entrapped rod.

The present invention provides a minimally invasive surgery pedicle screw system, including: a plurality of slotted guides that are selectively inserted through one or more surgical incisions; a plurality of pedicle screws selectively coupled to the plurality of slotted guides that are selectively secured to one or more bony anatomical structures; a pendulum mechanism selectively translatably and pivotably coupled to one of the plurality of slotted guides; and a connecting rod selectively translatably and pivotably coupled to one of the plurality of slotted guides; wherein the pendulum mechanism is selectively coupled to the connecting rod. Minimally invasive surgery pedicle screw system

The cervical plate locking mechanism of the present invention is elegant in its design and effective in its performance, and utilizes a plate with holes that each incorporate a locking lip structure and locking screws that each incorporate a head portion having petal structures that are outwardly biased prior to insertion via an internally-disposed c-ring or the like. Advantageously, the lead-in torque of each of the locking screws is less than the lead-out torque of each of the locking screws. Thus, reverse threading or backing out is prevented.

The present disclosure provides a cannulated bone screw system including a screw with a threaded portion, a non-threaded portion, and a first plurality of teeth spaced apart from a screw head; and a washer with an interior portion with a second plurality of teeth and an opening and an outer portion with a plurality of spikes. The first plurality of teeth are on an inferior convex surface; wherein the second plurality of teeth are on a superior concave surface; and wherein the first plurality of teeth and the second plurality of teeth are operable to mate to prevent the screw from backing out of the washer while allowing the cannulated bone screw system to conform/pivot in order to accommodate different bone morphologies.
