In a camera in which a film cartridge is loaded into the camera while a leader of film projecting out of the film cartridge is left outside the camera, and, after the leader of film projecting out of the film cartridge is pulled in the camera, the film is fed to a film take-up spool, there are provided a film cartridge chamber arranged to protrude toward the front of the camera such that a film advance path is bent at a position between the film cartridge chamber and an aperture of the camera, and a film feeding action portion arranged at the bent position.

A camera is arranged to effect easy loading of a film. The camera includes a film cartridge chamber for housing a film cartridge having a film therein, a spool for winding the film fed from the film cartridge, and a pressing plate for pressing the film onto an aperture. Also provided is an openable closure for closing the film cartridge chamber, after the film cartridge has been loaded in the film cartridge chamber, while holding a leader portion of the film remaining outside the camera and the other portion of the film housed inside the camera in such a state that it is not subjected to the action of the pressing plate. A first detector detects the leader portion of the film remaining outside the camera, and a second detector detects a closed state of the closure. A film feeder is arranged to initially rewind the film into the film cartridge to retract the leader portion of the film into the camera in response to the detection of the leader portion of the film effected by the first detector, and the detection of the closed state of the closure is effected by the second detector and then operates the film in a film winding direction to cause the film to be wound up onto the spool.

A camera capable, upon insertion of a film cartridge having a leader of film outside the cartridge into a cartridge chamber of the camera leaving the leader outside the camera, of feeding the leader first backward into the interior of the camera and then forward to a film takeup spool of the camera, includes a closing mechanism for closing the cartridge chamber, a transporter for transporting the film, and an operating system for operating the closing mechanism by a driving power of the transporter means.

A device for determining whether a film leader is inside or outside a camera housing includes a light emitting device, a light detection device, and a control circuit. The light emitting device is disposed on one side of the film and emits signal light. The light detection device is disposed on the same side of the film and detects when the signal light is blocked by two separate portions of the film. The light detection device also detects when the signal light is not blocked by the two film portions. The two film portions are separated from each other by predetermined distance. The control means emits a control signal when the light detection device detects the signal light, thus indicating that the film leader is inside the camera housing.

There is disclosed a camera which makes use of a packed battery having a recess portion on a central part of one of its side walls to prevent the packed battery from being mounted incorrectly in the body of the camera, in which a chamber for housing the packed battery is arranged at a forwardly inclined position so that the packed battery housed in the chamber snugly fits at its recess portion to an arcuate outside surface of a spool chamber or a winding chamber formed in the camera body. A battery cover for the battery chamber is fixed onto the camera by a set screw or screws, and a strap holding portion and a rear cover stopper of the camera are integrally formed on said battery cover.

A camera is arranged such that when a film housed in a film cartridge is loaded into a film cartridge chamber of the camera with a leader portion of the film remaining outside the camera and upon closure of the film cartridge chamber, the leader portion of the film is retracted into the camera and the film is wound onto a film winding spool. This camera comprises a retracted-amount measuring system for measuring the retracted-amount of film when the leader portion thereof is retracted into the camera and a wound-amount detector responsive to an output of the retracted-amount measuring system to determine the amount of the film wound onto the film winding spool.

A camera is arranged such that when a film housed in a film cartridge is loaded into a film cartridge chamber of the camera with a leader portion of the film remaining outside the camera and upon closure of the film cartridge chamber, the leader portion of the film is automatically retracted into the camera and the film is wound onto a winding spool. This camera is characterized by providing a detector for detecting occurrence of an abnormal state of movement of the film during operation of retraction of the leader portion of the film into the camera, or during operation of winding the film onto the winding spool, and a warning system responsive to the abnormal-state detector to stop the movement of the film or to produce a warning of the occurrence of the abnormal state.

A camera with a shutter including opening and closing blades releasable, respectively, in response to a mechanical actuation and exposure control circuit for making an exposure which is assured by energizing the solenoid of an electromagnet with power supply from a battery. When the voltage of the battery drops below a satisfactory operating level, the opening blade is locked in automatic response to the mechanical actuation, and a shutter charging and film winding mechanism is no longer effective to operate, thereby preventing wasteful consumption of film due to blank exposures. Upon removal of the battery from a chamber therefor, the shutter charging and film winding mechanism is rendered again effective, and the release of the closing blade is mechanically retarded for a certain length of time from the mechanical release actuation of the opening blade.
