There is provided an image display viewing system including an image display device including a signal control portion that receives input of an image signal and outputs a signal that causes each of multiple different images to be displayed at least twice consecutively, and a display panel to which the signal output from the signal control portion is input and which alternately displays each of the multiple different images at least twice consecutively, and an optical modulator including a liquid crystal layer on which an image having a predetermined polarization direction output from the image display device and external light having random polarization are incident, and which periodically changes the polarization direction of the incident light, and a polarizing plate on which light emitted from the liquid crystal layer is incident and which has a polarization axis in a predetermined direction.

Image display viewing system, optical modulator and image display device

A liquid crystal display device, without light leakage in a black display mode, is provided. The liquid crystal display (LCD) device includes a LCD panel, a light source, and an optical filter between the LCD and the light source. When the LCD panel is in the black display mode without the optical filter, leakage light leaking from the LCD panel in an oblique direction shows a hue having a local minimum value in a wavelength range from 450 nm to 550 nm. Normal incident light entering into the LCD in a normal direction shows a hue same as that of light just emitted from the light source, and oblique incident light entering into the LCD panel in an oblique direction shows a hue having a local maximum value in a wavelength range from 400 nm to less than 550 nm.

Liquid crystal display device

A lens array sheet includes a lens layer having a lens surface on which a plurality of lenses are formed in an array, and a light diffusion layer arranged at an opposite side to the lens surface of the lens layer, for diffusing light directing toward the lens layer, wherein the light diffusion layer has a light reflection portion, which is embedded in at least a part of a non-light focusing region of the lens layer, for reflecting light passing through the non-light focusing region and directing toward the lens layer.

A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a liquid crystal panel, a backlight source provided on a rear surface of the liquid crystal panel, for irradiating the liquid crystal panel with white light, and an optical film provided between the liquid crystal panel and the backlight source, in which the optical film includes a base material which passes the white light irradiated from the backlight source, a colored layer partially provided on one surface of the base material at the side of the liquid crystal, panel, and a reflective layer provided on another surface of the base material at the side of the backlight source opposite to the colored layer, for reflecting the white light.

A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a liquid crystal panel which has a liquid crystal cell including a predetermined liquid crystal layer and polarizing plates for holding the liquid crystal cell, a backlight source which is arranged on the rear side of the liquid crystal panel, for irradiating the liquid crystal panel with white light, and an absorbing layer which is arranged between the backlight source and the liquid crystal cell, for absorbing only the light of the wavelength band corresponding to a changed color of the white light while passing through the liquid crystal panel in the oblique direction with respect to the normal direction of the liquid crystal panel.

A lens array sheet includes a lens layer having a lens surface on which a plurality of lenses are formed in an array, a light reflection layer arranged at an opposite side to the lens surface of the lens layer and having an opening within a light focusing region in the lenses to transmit light, for reflecting light at a site other than the opening, and a light diffusion layer arranged between the lens layer and the light reflection layer, for diffusing light, which passes through the opening and is directed toward the lens layer.

There is provided a liquid crystal display device that includes a liquid crystal panel in a vertically aligned liquid crystal mode, a backlight source placed at the back of the liquid crystal panel to emit white light to the liquid crystal panel, and an optical film placed between the liquid crystal panel and the backlight source and containing dichroic dye aligned in a substantially perpendicular direction.
