A short arc type discharge lamp has a pair of electrodes, at least one of which has an electrode body and an axis part. A taper part is formed at a base side of the electrode body. Plural holes extending in an axis direction of the electrode in line are formed at the taper part.

A high pressure discharge lamp having a hermetically sealed portion on opposite sides of an arc tube made of quartz glass and in which a pair of opposed electrodes is located is improved so that electrode rod warping is prevented even when the lamp is repeatedly lit and unlit. Discharge lamp and metal foil for a discharge lamp

Short-arc, ultra-high-pressure discharge lamp and method of manufacture

To reduce and prevent electrode displacement and at the same time to devise an arrangement of the side tube parts with high adhesion, a short-arc, ultra-high pressure discharge lamp a light emmitting part in which there is a pair of opposed electrodes and which is filled with at least 0.15 mg/mmof mercury is provided with side tube parts which extend from opposite sides of the light emitting part in which the electrodes are partially hermeticallly sealed and in which the electrodes are each welded in a central valley of a metal foil that has a cross section with an essentially inverted W-shape. The valley and flanking arches or peaks of the W-shape may be sarpentine or sinusoidal, trapezoidal, or rectangular in addition to the traditional W-shape having acutely angled corners between straight legs.

Lamp seal using functionally gradient material

A super-high pressure discharge lamp of the short arc type which has an arc tube portion in which there is a pair of opposed electrodes and which is filled with at least 0.15 mg/mm mercury, and side tube portions which extend from opposite sides of the arc tube portion and in which there are metal foils. The electrodes are each electrically connected to a respective one of the metal foils by a metallic component with cross-sectional area that is smaller than the cross sectional area of the electrodes in the area in which the electrodes are located in the side tube portions.

The object of the invention to devise an electrical insertion body for a tube lamp in which sealing bodies of an electrically conductive inorganic material component and a dielectric inorganic material component and upholding parts of the electrodes are attached securely to one another by sintering, and in which neither leaks nor falling out of the upholding parts of the electrodes occur. The object is achieved as claimed in the invention, in an electrical insertion body for a tube lamp in which an upholding part of the electrode is inserted into the center opening of a respective sealing body of a functional gradient material for a tube lamp, in that in the boundary areas between the sealing bodies and the upholding parts of the electrodes one diffusion area at a time is formed, in which the electrically conductive inorganic material component of the sealing body, the metallic component of the upholding part of the electrode and a diffusion accelerator are present diffused into one another, which at the sintering temperature accelerates diffusion of the electrically conductive inorganic material component of the sealing body and of the metallic component of the upholding part of the electrode and that in this way the upholding part of the electrode and the electrically conductive inorganic material component of the sealing body are joined to one another.
