Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for a user equipment (UE) to adaptively transition between modes of an adaptive receive diversity (ARD) antenna management configuration. In some cases, the UE may determine to transition from an ARD disallowed mode to an ARD standby mode in response to receiving a burst of downlink grants. The UE may dynamically update one or more criterion for transitioning between the ARD disallowed mode and the ARD standby mode according to a pattern of received downlink grants. For example, the UE may adjust a threshold quantity of downlink grants which constitutes a burst based on a downlink scheduling rate (DSR) of one or more prior ARD standby durations. In some cases, the UE may identify a fallback condition to transition from the ARD standby mode to the ARD disallowed mode.

Adaptive advanced receivers based on downlink grant pattern detection

Wireless communications techniques related to buffer status reports (BSRs) are provided. In some aspects, a method of wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE) includes: determining a buffer status report (BSR) condition is present based on a condition of an application; determining an uplink grant is not available for the UE to transmit data, related to the application, in a buffer of the UE within a period of time; removing the data from the buffer; resubmitting, to the buffer, at least a portion of the data removed from the buffer; and transmitting, to a base station (BS), at least one of a BSR or a scheduling request (SR) based at least in part on the resubmitting the at least the portion of the data to the buffer. Traffic aware regular buffer status reports

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a base station. The UE may receive, from the base station, parameters associated with a set of frequency bands, the parameters indicating a priority of each frequency band of the set of frequency bands. The UE may then measure, based on the priority, one or more frequencies of at least one frequency band of the set of frequency bands. The UE may then transmit, after a time delay and to the base station, a measurement report including measurements of one or more frequency bands of the set of frequency bands.

Techniques for enhanced handling of network measurements

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive information indicating a timer value of a timer associated with discarding a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) service data unit (SDU). The UE may determine that a timer modification condition is satisfied. The UE may modify the timer value based at least in part on the determination that the timer modification condition is satisfied. The UE may transmit a communication using the modified timer value. Techniques for timer adjustment for packet loss

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may identify radio access technology (RAT) state information associated with the UE, the RAT state information including an indication of whether the UE is operating in a steady state or is operating in a transition state. The UE may adapt a codec rate associated with an application of the UE based at least in part on whether the UE is operating in the steady state or is operating in the transition state. Techniques for radio aware codec rate adaptation

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may identify a first timer associated with a first antenna and a second timer associated with a second antenna. The UE may identify an expiration of the first timer associated with the first antenna. The UE may determine, based at least in part on the identified expiration of the first timer, whether a remaining time of the second timer associated with the second antenna is less than a timer threshold. The UE may select, based at least in part on the determination that the remaining time of the second timer is less than the timer threshold, the second antenna. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Techniques for performing an antenna-switching diversity procedure

Aspects are provided which allow a UE to manage a number of antennas in adaptive receive diversity (ARD) based on packet error rate (PER). The UE measures a downlink PER and determines a number of antennas for receiving a downlink transmission based on the measured, downlink PER. The UE measures downlink PER during switching from a fallback state to a steady state in an ARD state machine, and the UE changes a size of a fallback window in the ARD state machine based on the measured, downlink PER. The UE also disables switching from the steady state to the fallback state based on the measured downlink PER. As a result, a balance between UE reception performance and power savings is maximized and improved downlink data throughput is achieved.
