A support for an imaging material, which not only can give an imaging material and a print thereon having a high gloss appearance and being free of non-uniformity in gloss but also is improved in the property of peeling from a cooling roll and which has high stiffness and can be stably produced at a high speed, the support being a resin-coated-paper-based support for an imaging material, in which (1) each of a resin sheet on a side (front side) where an image is to be formed and a base paper has a multi-layered structure, (2) the base paper has a multi-layered structure, the resin sheet on the front surface is a polyolefin resin sheet and the paper layer constitution of the base paper is specified, or (3) the front resin sheet has a multi-layered structure constituted of an upper layer containing at least 50% by weight of a polyethylene resin having a density of at least 0.940 g/cmand a lower layer containing a largest amount of a polyethylene resin (b) having a density of less than 0.940 g/cmamong and the base paper is composed mainly of a natural pulp having a specific fiber length.

Support for imaging material

A resin coated paper-based support for an imaging material comprises a multilayered base paper and a polyolefin resin sheet on at least the image forming side of the paper base. The thickness, fiber length, pulp composition, and freeness of the paper layers comprising the multilayered base paper base are controlled in order to obtain an imaging material with high gloss, stiffness, and curl resistance. The polyolefin resin sheet may comprise one or more layers.

The task of the present invention is to provide an excellent resin-coated paper type support for imaging materials using a paper as a base which can provide imaging materials and prints made therefrom superior in visual gloss, cutting properties and curling properties. This task is attained by a support for imaging materials which comprises a paper mainly composed of natural pulp as a base, a resin layer (A) comprising a resin having film-formability coated on one side of the paper base on which an image forming layer is provided-and a resin layer (B) mainly composed of a polyethylene resin coated on another side of the paper base, wherein the natural pulp has a fiber length of 0.60 mm or less, the paper base has a density of 1.05 g/cm,or more, and the resin layer (B) mainly composed of a polyethylene resin is coated at 200 m/min or more.

Disclosed are resin-coated paper having on one side of its base paper a first resin layer made of a resin composition obtained by melt-blending 90 to 65 parts by weight of a high-density polyethylene resin having a melt flow rate of 10.0 g/10 min to 40.0 g/10 min and a density of 0.960 g/cm.sup.3 or more and 10 to 35 parts by weight of a low-density polyethylene resin or a medium-density polyethylene resin, which has a melt flow rate of 0.2 g/10 min to 2 g/10 min, a density of 0.935 g/cm.sup.3 or less, a percentage of molecules with a molecular weight of 500,000 or more of 10% by weight or more and a critical shear rate of 0.5 (l/sec) or less, said resin composition obtained by the melt-blending having a critical shear rate of 10 (l/sec) or less; and a process for producing the resin-coated paper. The resin-coated paper is good in the molding processability of the resin layer, is excellent in the adhesion between the resin layer and the base paper, and contains only a small amount of a gel formed.

Resin-coated paper

A photographic support consisting essentially of a substrate and a resin layer provided on the image forming side of the substrate, said resin layer comprising a specific titanium dioxide pigment and others. This photographic support is excellent in that it has a high brightness and a high apparent whiteness and stability of the apparent whiteness is good; printed image of high sharpness can be formed thereon: and occurrence of die lip stain at production is quite little and thus it has good surface property.

Disclosed is an ink jet recording sheet comprising a support and an ink receiving layer provided on at least one side of the support wherein said ink receiving layer contains a cation-modified non-spherical colloidal silica. The cation-modifier used is preferably hydrous aluminum oxide, hydrous zirconium oxide or hydrous tin oxide. The ink jet recording sheet is high in gloss, quick in drying of ink and superior in water resistance of ink jet recorded images and film formability of the ink receiving layer.

This invention provides polypropylene-based resin-coated paper using paper as substrate and having excellent smoothness, especially the one which, when used for printing or heat transfer recording, keeps free from formation of white dots and occurrence of density unevenness in images, and thus is suited for printing use or heat transfer recording use. At least one side of the paper substrate is coated with a resin. The paper used as substrate is characterized by the fact that the unevenness in film thickness in machine direction (unevenness index) as measured by a film thickness meter is less than a specified value. The resin used for coating is a compounded resin composition comprising a polyethylene-based resin and a random polypropylene-based resin obtained by randomly copolymerizing principally ethylene and propylene, with the ethylene proportion being in a specified range, wherein the ratio by weight of the polyethylene-based resin to the random polypropylene-based resin is in a specified range, and the composition has been subjected to at least one round of kneading.

A photographic support comprising a paper substrate and the resin layers formed on both sides thereof, each of the resin layers being made of a resin composition comprising a polyethylene resin, wherein the difference in thickness between the resin layer on the side on which a photographic layer is to be provided and the resin layer on the opposite side is 3 .mu.m or greater, and the polyethylene resin in the resin layer on the side opposite from the photographic layer is a compounded resin prepared by melting and mixing a specified number of parts by weight of a specific low-density or medium-density polyethylene resin and a specified number of parts by weight of a specific high-density polyethylene resin. This resin-coated paper type photographic support has good adhesion between the base paper and the resin layer on the side opposite from the photographic layer, excellent in qualities such as anticurl properties, cutting properties and capable of high-speed production.

A resin coated sheet type photographic support which is made up of a support, which is coated on both sides with a polyolefin resin. On the image forming side, the resin contains a titanium dioxide pigment and a fluorescent agent of an alkyl-substituted 2,2'-(1,4-naphthalenediyl)-dibenzoxazole represented by the structural formula [I]: ##STR1## wherein R' and R' are independently alkyl groups having 9-20 carbon atoms, m and n are independently 0 or positive integers and m+n=1-4. There is disclosed a support for photosensitive materials which comprises base paper comprising natural kraft pulp, and a resin layer formed on the base paper, said natural kraft pulp being produced by digesting wood chips by the kraft process, and washing the digested product in the presence of an anti-foaming agent or a foam-inhibitor, followed by bleaching by the use of chlorine or an oxidizing agent containing at least one chlorine atom, and said natural kraft pulp having a number of areas tarnished by silver tarnishing reaction of 20 or less. This support exhibits good photographic properties when a silver halide photosensitive layer is provided thereon.

An alkyl-substituted 2,2'-(1,4-naphthalenediyl)dibenzoxazole represented by the structural formula [I]: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are independently alkyl groups having 9-20 carbon atoms, m and n are independently 0 or positive integers and m+n=1-4, and a photographic support comprising the alkyl-substituted 2,2'-(1,4-naphthalenediyl)dibenzoxazole as a fluorescent agent.
