The present invention provides an apparatus for applying electrical stimulation to cells in a liquid culture medium without using electrodes immersed in the liquid culture medium. This apparatus is an electrical stimulation apparatus A for electrically stimulating cells in a liquid culture medium (). A liquid culture medium vessel () includes: a ring-shaped recess () for holding the liquid culture medium (); and a through hole () formed within the ring-shaped recess (). A magnetic core () is made of a magnetic material and disposed such that a portion thereof is inserted through the through hole () of the liquid culture medium vessel (). An excitation coil () is wound around the magnetic core (). A coil power supply () supplies a varying current to the excitation coil ().

Apparatus and method for non-contact electrical stimulation of cells in liquid culture medium

A smaller-sized, more lightweight, and power-saving successive magnetic pulse device is provided. A discharging circuit section K is configured by connecting, in series in a loop, a magnetic therapy pulse coilconfigured to generate an eddy current in a target part, a charging/discharging capacitor, and a switching semiconductor elementconfigured to supply a discharge current from the charging/discharging capacitorto the pulse coil. In an actuator for an optical mechanical scanner comprising a positioning element for an optical mirror wherein the positioning element is an electrically heatable flexible element consisting of a shape memory alloy having a Curie temperature and a transformation temperature, and wherein the flexible element is ferromagnetic when cold and can be bent in a first position by a magnet but is heated to exceed the Curie temperature and the transformation temperature so as to become paramagnetic whereby the flexible element becomes deformed in the opposite direction.

With an object of providing an artificial sphincter for which repeated shape changes are possible, and for which the quantity of shape change is sufficient so as to be used as a substitute for a large natural sphincter, an artificial sphincterthat opens and closes, as required, either the anus of a living body or part of the intestineled outside the body is provided, wherein this artificial sphinctercomprises a pair of shape memory alloy elementsthat change reversibly between two opposite shapes upon changes in temperature and hingesthat link the shape memory alloy elementstogether in a cylindrical shape.

Artificial sphincter

In an NiMnGa alloy represented by the chemical formula of Ni Mn Ga, a composition ratio parameter X (mol) is selected within a range of 0.10&lE;X&lE;0.30. With this composition, the finish point of the reverse transformation of the martensitic transformation can be selected to a desired temperature within the range between &minus;20&deg; C. and 50&deg; C., while the Curie point is also selected to a desired temperature within the range between 60&deg; C. and 85&deg; C. The alloy has the shape memory effect by the martensitic transformation and the reverse transformation. Furthermore, the alloy is induced with the reverse transformation by application of an external magnetic field at the martensite phase to exhibit the shape recovery.
