To be capable of obtaining diffuse light with a sufficient amount of light, which is not susceptible to the influence of scratches of a film along the length direction, and to be capable of constructing the apparatus in a small size and at a low cost, a digital audio signal S track or P track is formed on the side of the film furtherest to the left of the left perforations or to the right of right perforations of a movie film, respectively. Light from an LED 51 is diffused by an elliptical diffuser 52, the diffusion angle of which is greater along the width direction of the film than along the length direction thereof, and is radiated onto the P track (or the S track). Then, the transmitted light which has passed through the P track (or the S track) is converged onto a line sensor 43A as a result of passing through a lens 42A, and the light is photoelectrically converted by the line sensor 43A, thereby reproducing digital sound.

Reproduction apparatus and method

A playback speed control system for a reproducing apparatus allows a user to manually vary the playback speed of a recording medium. When a user rotates a dial of the reproducing apparatus, a frequency generator generates pulses with a frequency that matches the rotational speed of the dial. A counter counts these generated pulses within a specified time period. In one embodiment, the recording medium speed is kept constant over a particular range of dial rotational speeds, while outside this range, the tape speed varies in accordance with the dial rotational speed. In another embodiment, if the value of the count data exceeds a reference value, then these pulses are averaged, and the averaged result is used to determine the speed of the recording medium. If the count data value is less than the reference value, then this count data is used to determine the speed of the recording medium. In yet another embodiment, the generated pulses are averaged in accordance with one of a plurality of averaging techniques. The particular averaging technique is selected in accordance with a comparison between the count data value and a plurality of reference values. Each consecutive pair of reference values defines a particular range. Each range corresponds to a particular averaging technique, and when a count data value falls within a particular range, then the pulses are averaged in accordance with the averaging technique that corresponds to that particular range.

Digital sound signal reproducing apparatus for projector

A digital audio signal recording device which, in conjunction with a film magazine loaded with a motion picture film and an analog audio recording device recording analog audio signals on the motion picture film, constitutes an audio signal recording system for the motion picture film capable of recording both analog audio signals and digital audio signals on the motion picture film delivered from the film magazine. The digital audio signal recording device transports the motion picture film, delivered from the inside of the film magazine via the film reel-out section, into the digital audio signal recording device via a first film feed-in section, and then transports the film to the analog audio signal recording device via a first feed-out section and a film lead-in section. The motion picture film introduced into the analog audio signal recording device is returned into the digital audio signal recording device via a film lead-out section and a second film feed-in section. The digital audio signals are recorded in the digital sound track area on the motion picture film returned back into the digital audio signal recording device by a digital audio signal recording section provided in the digital audio signal recording device. The motion picture film, on which the digital audio signals have now been recorded, is delivered via a second film feed-out section towards the film magazine so as to be taken up in the film magazine by a film taker-in section.
