A connector assembly includes a first connector having a convex portion at a side surface in a direction perpendicular to a direction of connection and a second connector having a concave portion at a side surface in the direction perpendicular to the direction of connection, the convex portion of the first connector being fitted into the concave portion of the second connector to join the first connector and the second connector together, only one of the first connector and the second connector including a floating mechanism that allows floating operations in directions perpendicular to the direction of connection.

In a connector including a housing holding a contact, a shell covers the contact and the housing. The housing includes a protecting portion. The shell includes a first shell which includes a first contacting portion, and a second shell which includes a second contacting portion brought into contact with the first contacting portion in the protecting portion.

A connector capable of detecting whether or not two connected objects each having a substantially plate-like shape have been normally inserted into a housing. A first insertion-detecting contact and a second insertion-detecting contact are arranged adjacent to each other in the housing. Connector

A locking device which has a strong locking force and is difficult to be broken. Leaf springs bending in a direction toward or away from the rear end of a function expansion card are provided in a housing, and locking sections for locking the function expansion card are connected to the leaf springs. Guide sections are provided in the housing, for guiding the outer ends of the leaf springs in the direction of bending of the leaf springs.

Locking device and connector provided with the same

In a floating connector () including a fitting portion () and a fixed portion (), a supporting mechanism () is connected to the fitting portion and the fixed portion to support the fitting portion to the fixed portion so that the fitting portion may float in a fitting direction () of a mating connector (). A floating control mechanism () is arranged between the fitting portion and the fixed portion. When the mating connector is not fitted to the floating connector, the floating control mechanism locks or inhibits the floating of the fitting portion. However, the floating control mechanism enables the floating of the fitting portion in response to a fitting operation of the mating connector to the floating connecter. Use of the mating connector causes motion of a slide plate () and rotation of a stopper () about an axis () and results in release of the fitting portion () to enable it to float in a selected direction. A metal ground plate () may be attached to the contact assembly and selected contacts () folded back to engage the ground plate (FIG.B).

Connector in which floating of a front portion is controlled by fitting of a mating connector

In a connector to be connected to a connection object, a housing holds a contact having a conductivity. An operating member is coupled to the housing to bring a part of the connection object into press contact with the contact. The connector is provided with a locking member which is for clamping the other part of the connection object in cooperation with the operating member. It is preferable that the locking member is engaged with the operating member and the housing to lock the operating member with respect to the housing.
