The present invention enhances a display quality of a display device as a task. As means for solving such a task, the present invention provides a display device including a light emitting element and a switching element in a pixel, wherein the switching element is provided for supplying a power source to the light emitting element and is constituted of a first switching element and a second switching element. The first switching element and the second switching element are configured to be operated, in response to inputting of data signals into the inside of the pixel, one switching element assumes a positive bias state and another switching element assumes a reverse bias state, and the bias states are alternately changed over between the first switching element and the second switching element in response to time-sequential inputting of the data signals, and the supply of the power source to the light emitting element is performed by way of either one of the first switching element and the second switching element.

The present invention provides an organic EL display device which has a long lifetime. The organic EL display device includes a plurality of pixels each of which is constituted of a top-emission-type active matrix organic EL element. The EL element includes: a pixel electrode; a reflective layer arranged between the pixel electrode and an active element and is formed over a leveling layer; an organic light emission layer; and a common electrode. The reflective layer includes: a first reflective layer which is made of high-melting-point metal; and a second reflective layer which is arranged on the first reflective layer. The second reflective layer includes a planar pattern in which an outer periphery of the second reflective layer is surrounded by the first reflective layer. The pixel electrode extends outward from the first reflective layer and the second reflective layer.

An organic EL display device includes a moisture-resistant structural body which covers an upper surface and a side surface of an organic light emitting layer which is formed on a main surface of an insulation substrate and is formed by stacking a first moisture prevention layer, a moisture absorption layer, a second moisture prevention layer, and an adhesive layer which covers the upper and side surface of the organic EL layer. The first moisture prevention layer, the moisture absorption layer and the second moisture prevention layer on the side surface of the organic light emitting layer include portions are bent toward the side surface from the upper surface of the organic light emitting layer and, further, are bent parallel to a main surface of the insulation substrate from the side surface, and lower surfaces of the respective bent portions of at least one of the layers are hermetically adhered to the main surface of the substrate by the adhesive layer.

The invention mainly provides an organic EL display device which can prevent the intrusion of moisture into an organic EL film by applying a thin film technique to the display device. For this end, the organic EL display device is configured such that (1) a lower electrode and an upper electrode are formed with an organic EL film sandwiched therebetween, an SiOxNy film which functions as a moisture proof film is formed to cover the upper electrode by a plasma CVD method, wherein the moisture proof film protects the organic EL film from moisture, (2) an inspection-use conductive film is formed on the moisture proof filmand (3) the presence or the non-presence of a defect in the moisture proof film is detected by applying a DC or AC voltage between the inspection-use conductive film and the upper electrode.

TFTs are formed on a substrate. An interlayer insulation film is formed on the substrate to cover the TFTs. Lower layer portions of SD lines formed of a multi-layered film which are formed on the interlayer insulation film constitute a lower electrode of an organic EL layer. An uppermost layer of the SD line is formed of a chemically stable metal oxide film, and the SD layer is used as it is. On the other hand, as a lower electrode of an organic EL layer, an upper layer of the SD line is removed and an Al&#x2014;Si, alloy film of the SD line is used. Due to such a constitution, it is possible to reduce a cost by shortening steps while holding the performance and the reliability of organic EL.

The present invention provides a manufacturing method of a display device which can efficiently separate individual thin-thickness display devices from a large-sized mother substrate. Scribe marks for separating a plurality of display devices are preliminarily formed on back surfaces of a TFT mother substrate and a sealing mother substrate. By etching front surfaces of these mother substrates, etching portions reach the scribe marks so that a plurality of display devices each of which is constituted of a TFT substrate and a sealing substrate can be separated from each other.

The present invention provides a top-emission-type organic EL display device. In a top-emission-type organic EL display device which includes organic EL elements each of which is formed by stacking a reflective lower electrode, a function layer and a light-transmissive upper electrode in order, the upper electrode contains a plurality of fine particles which are made of a material different from a material of the upper electrode. The fine particles are preferably made of silica. A portion of the upper electrode may be provided below the fine particles and a portion of the upper electrode may be provided above the fine particles.
