An image processing apparatus includes an input unit for inputting image data, a storage unit for storing a plurality of non-rectangular area data, a selection unit for selecting the non-rectangular area data stored in the storage unit, a control unit for reading out the non-rectangular area data selected by the selection unit from the storage unit in synchronism with input of the image data by the input unit, and a processing unit for processing the image data in accordance with the non-rectangular area data selected by the selection unit.

A system is constructed by connecting a plurality of digital copying machines (stations). having a common structure, and a master station and slave stations to are defined in accordance with their addresses. The master station issues a status request command to the slave stations at a predetermined time interval in order to gather information on the status of each slave station. In a mode of continuously forming different images, such as a serial page copy mode and an enlargement serial copy mode, which of the images are to be formed, and how they are to be formed is previewed prior to the start of a copy operation. At an operation unit an operator sets a selected mode, for example, the serial page copy mode, by sequentially depressing a preview key and an image reading key to supply image data to a preview processing unit which displays the output image on a CRT prior to printing. The output images may be displayed in the order to be copied. The output images may also be collectively displayed on the same screen, or the continuous display during preview may be temporarily interrupted or resumed at a desired timing.

An image processor matches a hue of an output image with a hue of a preview image. The image processor generates preview image data to confirm on a display, an output color image generated by an image forming unit. When a magnification is specified in the XY zoom mode, the key indicating that the mode has been specified is displayed. Pressing this key displays the XY zoom setting screen again. This facilitates the confirmation and change of set processing conditions.

Operational control device and method for an image processing apparatus

One of a plurality of image processing apparatus connected to an image processing system freely sets image forming conditions, such as recording paper size and enlargement/reduction magnification ratio, with regard to some or all of the other image processing apparatus, subsequently reads the image of an original by means of a reader, outputs image data indicative of the image read and transmits this image data to the other image processing apparatus. The image processing apparatus that has read the image of the original and the image processing apparatus that has received the image data output copies of the image of the original on the basis of the image forming conditions that have been set. Accordingly, it is possible to provide an image processing method and system in which a plurality of image processing apparatus are connected and identical images are outputted simultaneously from each of the apparatus connected.
