Reaction force mechanism for backrest of a chair has clear large space under the seat and uses a longer reaction force spring than the prior art. The mechanism includes a base member supported on a leg, a back support member coupled by a rotation shaft to the base member to recline and support the backrest, a seat support member to which the seat is mounted, a weight-dependent reaction force mechanism for moving the seat support member in a lifting direction, and a reaction force spring for applying a spring force for returning the back support member to an original position, in which the reaction force spring is disposed in a lateral orientation between the back support member and the seat support member.

A structure for attaching a frame-like spring being capable of effectively reducing the number of parts, is provided. According to this structure, a reaction force frame element which is a frame-like spring is attached via a lower frame portion and an upper frame portion so that pressurization is always provided in the movable range and the pressurization becomes the lowest at a predetermined position of a normal posture. Specifically, when the a reaction force frame element is made into the attaching preparation posture that the elastic repulsive forces are accumulated rather than a normal posture, the upper attaching portions include insertion portions for allowing insertion of lower ends and engagement portions to be engaged to the lower end portions due to an elastic repulsive force when the external force is released.

A simple arrangement of a chair allows transformation of the shape of a backrest. The chair has a transformable backrest and a backrest receiving member that supports a bottom end portion of the backrest in a slidable manner toward a certain direction and an operating lever to select and fix a position at which the backrest is slid and the backrest can be transformed in compliance with the position fixed by the operating lever.

In a chair comprising at least a backrest portion to support a back of a seated person and a back frame to connect the backrest portion with a seat, the backrest portion has a pocket that covers an upper portion of the back frame , the pocket has an engaging portion that prevents the upper portion from being pulled out of the pocket by making an engagement with the upper portion of the back frame and the upper portion of the back frame is covered with the pocket and the backrest portion is mounted on the back frame by engaging the engaging portion with the covered upper portion of the back frame

Structure for mounting backrest

A chair allowing a person sitting thereon to move a part of the person's body above the waist which corresponds to the backrest of the chair is provided having a backrest portion located behind a seat portion, the backrest portion being divided into backrest upper frames and backrest lower frames , wherein a first state which allows the whole backrest frame to incline rearwardly and a second state which allows the backrest upper frames to incline rearwardly relative to the backrest lower frames are assumed, the first state and the second state being switchable to each other.
