A carriage arm and a hard disk drive unit including the carriage arm, where the carriage arm includes a head slider mounting part and a voice coil attachment part integrally formed with each other by a metal plate being press punched so that the head slider mounting part and the voice coil attachment part are arranged opposite to each other with respect to a rotational axis of the carriage arm. Additionally, the head slider mounting part defines a first plane and the voice coil attachment part defines a second plane that is different from the first plane, and where the head slider mounting part and the voice coil attachment part are connected to each other by a bent portion.

Hard disk drive unit having a reduced size and cost

A disk drive including a disk rotatably mounted in a housing and having a plurality of tracks, a rotating mechanism for rotating the disk, a head slider having a transducer for reading/writing data on the disk, and an actuator for moving the head slider across the tracks. The actuator includes an actuator arm rotatably mounted in the housing, a suspension having a front end portion for supporting the head slider and a base end portion fixed to the actuator arm, and a pad mounted on a disk opposing surface of the actuator arm. The pad overlaps at least an outermost circumferential portion of the disk in a specific position of the actuator upon stoppage of driving of the disk drive.

Disk drive having external shock resistance

A housing includes a base plate and a metallic cover. The cover may be formed by deep-drawing. The housing accommodates, for example, a magnetic disk, a magnetic head, and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism serves to displace the magnetic head with respect to the magnetic disk. When the cover is coupled to the base plate, a screw is screwed, penetrating the cover, into the tip end of the carriage axis for supporting a carriage. Vibration caused by swinging movement of the carriage is transmitted to the cover through the screw. A vibration absorber adhered to the outer surface of the cover is adapted to absorb the transmitted vibration. Noise may be suppressed in the seek operation.

Recording disk apparatus

An actuator structure includes an arm portion carrying a predetermined number of heads for recording/reproducing information, provided on one side of a rotary shaft, and at least two coil support portions, each of which supports a coil member for moving the heads on recording media, provided on the other side of the rotary shaft relative to the arm portion. Each of the at least two coil support portions extends from either side of a line passing through the head and the rotary shaft, and the at least two coil support portions are formed asymmetrically relative to the line.
