A pen includes a first speaker that outputs a first signal and a second speaker that outputs a second signal. The first and second speakers are located away from a tip of the pen at respectively different locations. The second signal is delayed with respect to the first signal by a time shorter than a cycle of the first signal. An interpolation time is set between the times of generation of the first and second signals. Interpolated positions of the first and second speakers at the interpolation time are estimated, and position of the tip of the pen is calculated from the interpolated positions of the first and second speakers.

A document processing system is disclosed that is capable of processing both fixed-format and unfixed-format hand written paper documents. The document processing system includes an encoding unit that encodes a sheet ID for identifying a hand written first document on a sheet to generate a coded sheet ID; a decoding unit that decodes the coded sheet ID; a document-sheet ID association unit that associates the sheet ID with a document ID assigned to a computerized second document; a printing unit that acquires the sheet ID and prints the coded sheet ID on the first document; a sheet ID management unit that manages the sheet ID; an information acquisition unit that acquires the sheet ID decoded by the decoding unit, and hand-written data from the first document on which the coded sheet ID is printed; and a process-sheet ID association unit that associates the sheet ID with a process ID of a process for processing the hand-written data acquired by the information acquisition unit.

An electronic document creating apparatus includes a document information obtaining device that obtains and inputs document identification information put on a sheet document. The document identification information specifies an electronic document stored in a folder. The electronic document serves as an output source of the sheet document. An electronic document extraction device is provided to extract an electronic document based on the document identification information. A new document creation device is provided to create a new electronic document by combining at least two electronic documents extracted by the electronic document extraction device. The new electronic document is stored in a folder.

A 2-dimensional code reading apparatus includes a code position detector receiving an input image that is formed by optically reading 2-dimensional codes, and extracting a 2-dimensional codes from the input image. A data decoder performs decoding of the identification information and the positional information. A paper identification information management system includes a client apparatus that handles a sheet of paper bearing prescribed information, and a management server connected to the client apparatus via a network to comprehensively manage information about the paper handled in the client apparatus. The client apparatus transmits a paper ID request and document information to the management server via the network when carrying out a printing operation. Based on the paper ID request and the document information, the management server assigns a paper ID to each sheet of paper handled by the client apparatus. The management server then transmits the paper IDs to the client apparatus, and simultaneously, records the assigned paper IDs in association with the document information.

A data sheet is composed of an upper part and a lower part. The upper part is used as a user interface including a reduced image of contents of a document. The lower part is an interface for a reading device such as a copy machine, including a code obtained by encoding the document. By use of the data sheet, the user can easily distribute or carry an electronic document data with the user. In addition, the user can recognize contents of the electronic document data by looking at the reduced image printed on the data sheet.
