An organic EL element including an anode, a first functional layer including organic material, disposed above the anode, a second functional layer including organic material, disposed on and in contact with the first functional layer, a light emitting layer disposed on and in contact with the second functional layer, and a cathode disposed above the light emitting layer. A highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level of the organic material of the second functional layer has an energy level at least 0.2 eV lower than that of a HOMO level of the organic material of the first functional layer, and film thickness of the second functional layer is 15 nm or less.

Organic EL element, organic EL panel, and organic EL element manufacturing method

An organic electroluminescence element including an anode, a light-emitting layer, a functional layer, and a cathode stacked in this order. The light-emitting layer and the functional layer are in contact with each other. Hole mobility of the light-emitting layer is greater than electron mobility of the light-emitting layer. The electron mobility of the light-emitting layer is equal to or greater than an effective electron mobility of the functional layer. A highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level of a first functional material included in the light-emitting layer is at least 0.4 eV greater than a HOMO level of a second functional material included in the functional layer.

An organic electroluminescence (EL) element including: an anode; a first functional layer above the anode, the first functional layer having at least one of a hole injection property and a hole transport property; a light-emitting layer above the first functional layer, the light-emitting layer including an organic light-emitting material doped with an electron donor material; a second functional layer above the light-emitting layer, the second functional layer having at least one of an electron injection property and an electron transport property; and a cathode disposed above the second functional layer, wherein carrier density of the light-emitting layer is from 10/cmto 10/cm.

Organic electroluminescence element and method of manufacturing the same

An EL display device including a light emitter configured to emit at least red, green, and blue light; and a thin film transistor array that controls light emission. The light emitter includes light-emitting layers within areas defined by a bank that emit at least red, green, and blue light. The light emitter further includes electrodes that extend under the bank and hole transport layers that are above the electrodes within the areas defined by the bank, the light-emitting layers being formed on the hole transport layers. The hole transport layers each have a main portion and a peripheral protrusion in contact with a side surface of the bank that protrudes upwards from the main portion. The light-emitting layers each have a peripheral protrusion in contact with a side surface of the bank, formed above a corresponding one of the peripheral protrusions.

EL display device

A forming method of a protective film made of oxide containing any one of calcium oxide (CaO), strontium oxide (SrO) and barium oxide (BaO) and having a higher band gap than that of magnesium oxide (MgO) (higher than 7.9 eV) is provided. By adjusting a time constant of a protective film to a predetermined value or larger, the voltage drop time is adjusted so as to be usable for a plasma display panel. At this time, the time constant &#x3c4;(=C&#xd7;R) defined by the discharge capacitance C and the protective film resistance R is referenced.

A PDP is proposed which has high emission efficiency and which can decrease address discharge voltage. In a column direction of at least one of transparent electrodes, which perform sustain discharge via respective discharge gaps of a pair of row electrodes and constituting a row electrode pair, is set to 150 &#x3bc;m or less, and partial pressure of xenon in discharge gas sealed in a discharge space is set to 6.67 kPa or more. A width of a scan electrode, which is one row electrode of each of the row electrode pair facing the column electrode and to which scan pulse is applied, is wider than a width of the other row electrode of the pair to which discharge sustain voltage is applied.

Plasma display panel

Ribs for defining pixel cells are formed in the shape of a lattice, and sustain electrodes and scan electrodes are disposed near the ribs. The electrodes are spaced apart in each pixel cell, and the sustain electrode and the scan electrode are each cut away between pixel cells arranged in the row direction to provide each pixel cell with individually separated electrodes. In addition, between pixel cells adjacent to each other in the row direction, the sustain electrodes and the scan electrodes are connected to each other by means of a sustain-side bus electrode and a scan-side bus electrode, respectively. This makes it possible to provide a high luminous efficiency. Furthermore, each pixel cell is provided with a wide distance between the electrodes and thereby with a large effective opening portion. Thus, this provides only a small amount of reduction in intensity when the electrodes are spaced apart between the pixel cells arranged in the row direction in order to increase the luminous efficiency. The sustain electrodes or the scan electrodes can be connected to each other or shared between pixel cells adjacent to each other in the column direction and thus the effective opening portion can be made larger, thereby making it possible to provide a further increased intensity and luminous efficiency.

Plasma display panel and method for fabricating the same

To provide a plasma display device which implements a peak luminance higher than prior art, reduces the power dissipation, improves the smoothness of gradation display, and conducts clear display suitable especially for TV display. By setting a plurality of APL levels according to the average value of the scene brightness, and by shortening a sustaining pulse period and increasing the number of sustaining pulses of each sub-field in APL levels having small APL, the peak luminance is raised. Further, by making the sustaining pulse period long in APL levels having large APL requiring large discharge light emission power, the light emission efficiency is improved and the maximum power dissipation is reduced. The luminance distribution in the scene when the APL level is small is detected. On the basis of that information, setting of the number of sustaining pulses and the sustaining pulse period is changed in the same APL level. As a result, the peak luminance is increased, and the gradation smoothness in the dark scene is improved.

Method and apparatus for enhancing peak luminance on plasma display panel

A plasma display panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate spaced away from the first substrate, scanning and sustaining electrodes formed on the first substrate and extending in a first direction, a dielectric layer formed on the first substrate, covering the scanning and sustaining electrodes therewith, and a data electrode formed on the second substrate and extending in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, each of the scanning and sustaining electrodes being comprised of a transparent electrode, the dielectric layer being comprised of a transparent dielectric layer, the dielectric layer having a high-capacity portion having a capacity higher than that of the rest of the dielectric layer, the high-capacity portion being spaced away from a discharge gap and extending in the first direction, each of the scanning and sustaining electrodes being formed with an opening between the discharge gap and the high-capacity portion.

The electrodes are spaced apart in each pixel cell, and the sustain electrode and the scan electrode are each cut away between pixel cells arranged in the row direction to provide each pixel cell with individually separated electrodes. In addition, between pixel cells adjacent to each other in the row direction, the sustain electrodes and the scan electrodes are connected to each other by means of a sustain-side bus electrode and a scan-side bus electrode, respectively. This makes it possible to provide a high luminous efficiency.

An electromagnetic field shielding layer made of an electroconductive material and having windows corresponding to display cells is formed on a substrate on the side of display. Color filters are provided on the windows of the electromagnetic field shielding layer to allow the electromagnetic field shielding layer to exist on boundaries between adjacent color filters. The electromagnetic field shielding layer and color filters may be covered with an insulating body layer.
