A battery case of a rectangular battery has a main body member that has the shape of a bottomed rectangular tube, and a lid member that has the shape of a rectangular plate. The main body member has a rectangular opening portion that is constituted of opening long side portions, opening short side portions, and opening R portions. The lid member seals the opening portion. The opening portion is configured such that each thickness of the opening R portions is larger than each thickness of the opening long side portions respectively. In addition, the opening portion and a lid peripheral edge portion are welded to each other in an airtight manner along an entire circumference thereof, by an energy beam that is radiated from outside the lid member in a thickness direction thereof.

Rectangular battery and method of manufacturing rectangular battery

This battery is provided with a power generating element, a battery case main body, a battery case lid, an electrode terminal member which is connected electrically to the power generating element inside of the battery case body and which extends outside of the battery case lid, and an outer insulation member which is arranged on the battery case lid and insulates the electrode terminal member from the battery case lid. The battery case lid is fitted inside of the opening and welded to the battery case main body by irradiating a laser from above the battery case lid towards the boundary section between the battery case lid and the battery case main body. Furthermore, this battery is provided with a plume control portion which prevents the plume that rises from the boundary portion during welding from rising towards the outer insulating member.

Battery

A battery includes an external terminal member and an insulating member on an outer surface of a lid member so that an interval between the insulating member and the lid member is smaller in a long side of the lid member than in a short side. A weld mark is formed over the entire circumference of the lid member to extend across the outer surface of the lid member and an open end face of the case body. The weld mark not only extends across the outer surface of the lid member and the open end face of the case body but also reaches an outer side surface of the case body in a zone of the long side of the lid member facing the insulating member, but does not reach the outer side surface of the case body in a zone except the former zone.

Battery and method for producing the battery

A battery houses an electrode body inside a battery case including a bottomed cylindrical case body having an opening part, and a plate-like lid member inserted in the opening part so as to seal the opening. The opening part and a lid peripheral edge part are welded hermetically by an energy beam irradiated from outside in the thickness direction of the lid member. In a specific section, the inner peripheral surface of the opening part and the peripheral edge surface of the lid peripheral edge part are welded in close contact with each other. A bead at the specific section takes a fan shape having a central angle of 160 to 200 degrees in a cross section, and the center of the fan shape is positioned on the inner peripheral surface and the peripheral edge surface.

Battery and method for producing same

A battery case of a rectangular battery includes a lid member welded to an opening portion in a main body member. Each opening rounded portion of the opening portion has, in the circumferential direction, a support projecting portion which projects inward over the entire opening rounded portion and which supports the lid member. Meanwhile, in the circumferential direction along an entire opening short side portion, the opening short side portion has a low projecting portion which projects inward at a position lower than the support projecting portion in the depth direction of the main body member.
