Disclosed is a primer having from 50 to 90 mass % of (A) a chlorinated polyolefin resin having a chlorine content of from 5 to 50 mass % and a weight average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 100,000, from 45 to 5 mass % of (B) a blocked polyisocyanate compound, from 45 to 5 mass % of (C) a polyol resin having a hydroxyl group value of from 30 to 120 mgKOH/g and a weight average molecular weight from 5,000 to 50,000, from 0.5 to 12 mass % of (D) a diol having a weight average molecular weight of from 120 to 1,000 and from 0.01 to 1.5 mass % of (E) a hardening catalyst, wherein the proportions are with respect to the total mass of the resin solid fraction of the (A), (B), and (C) components.

Primers and a method of coating in which they are used

A metallic tone glitter paint film is formed by applying sequentially a first base metallic paint, a second base glitter paint in which there is compounded a very small scale-like pigment, or a very small scale-like pigment and an aluminum pigment (C), and a clear paint, and baking and hardening. The first base metallic paint comprises aluminum pigment (A) or which the average particle diameter Dis from 13 to 40 &#x3bc;m and the average thickness is from 0.4 to 2.5 &#x3bc;m and aluminum pigment (B) of which average particle diameter Dis from 4 to 30 &#x3bc;m and the average thickness is from 0.02 to less than 0.4 &#x3bc;m, and the solid fraction ratio (A/B) of the aluminum pigments (A) and (B) is from 90/10 to 10/90 and the solid fraction mass (A+B) of the aluminum pigments (A) and (B) is from 5 to 50 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the resin solid fraction.

Method of forming metallic tone glitter paint films and the painted objects

A metallic tone glitter paint film is formed by applying sequentially a first base metallic paint, a second base glitter paint in which very small scale-like pigment or very small scale-like pigment and aluminum pigment is compounded and a clear paint, baking and hardening. The metallic paint contains (A) aluminum pigment of average particle diameter Dfrom 13 to 40 m and average thickness from 0.5 to 2.5 &#x3bc;m (B) aluminum pigment of average particle diameter Dfrom 13 to 40 &#x3bc;m and average thickness from 0.01 to less than 0.5 m and (C) aluminum pigment of average particle diameter Dfrom 4 to less than 13 &#x3bc;m and average thickness from 0.01 to 1.3 &#x3bc;m, and the ratio (A/B) by mass of the solid fractions of the aluminum pigments (A) and (B) is from 10/90 to 90/10.

Method of forming metallic tone glitter paint films and painted objects

A pigment dispersing agent for paints is constituted with a particular acrylic polymer component having a tertiary amino group and/or a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring and a particular polyester component, and has particular number average molecular weight and amine value. This pigment dispersing agent is applicable to both acrylic resin series and polyester resin series paints as well as thermosetting type paints.
