An image forming apparatus configured to perform high-quality image formation regardless of an accuracy of mounting surface emitting element array chips includes an image data generating portion configured to generate pixel data equivalent to 2,400 dpi; a joint correcting portion configured to correct a misregistration amount at a joint between a predetermined surface emitting element array chip and a surface emitting element array chip arranged adjacent to the predetermined surface emitting element array chip; and a resolution converting portion configured to convert a resolution of the pixel data from 2,400 dpi to 1,200 dpi. The joint correcting portion is configured to correct the misregistration amount at the joint with respect to pixel data obtained after the resolution thereof is converted by the resolution converting portion.

An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable photosensitive drum together with first and second chips which include plural light emission elements arranged along a rotational axis of the photosensitive drum so as to expose the photosensitive drum to light emitted therefrom for each of one line extending along the rotational axis. Parts of the first and second chips overlap in a direction perpendicular to the rotational axis. A controller controls actuation of said light emitting elements on the basis of image data, wherein for the overlapped parts, the light emission pattern is controlled to be different for every predetermined number of the lines.

Provided is an image reading apparatus configured to recognize edge portions of an image of an original precisely without being influenced by the varying state of the four sides of the original. The image reading apparatus includes an image reading unit configured to read the original image by scanning the original, an edge determining unit configured to determine first edge locations at the left end and right end of the original image in a main scanning direction, an edge detector configured to detect a second edge location of the original image in a sub-scanning direction, a tilt expression calculator configured to calculate a linear expression that represents the amount of inclination of the original image with respect to the main scanning direction.

Image reading apparatus and image reading method

An image reading apparatus which is capable of successfully reading an image off an original by correctly detecting a size of the original without degrading productivity even if mixed-size originals are placed on an original tray with edges not aligned. An image reading unit reads an image off an original passing through a reading position. An original size detection sensor detects an original. A first original size is determined using a result of detection by the original size detection sensor, and a second original size is determined using the image read off the original. The first original size or the second original size is adopted as an original size.

An image reading apparatus includes a first scanner configured to read a first image from a front side of a document, a second scanner configured to read a second image from a back side of the document, and first and second offset storage parts configured to store a first offset amount for correcting an inclination of the first image and a second offset amount for correcting an inclination of the second image, respectively. The image reading apparatus is configured to generate, when the first scanner is replaced, a new first offset amount based on the second offset amount, a first inclination amount of the first scanner, and a second inclination amount of the second scanner. The image reading apparatus is configured to correct the first image based on the new first offset amount.
