An optical reader capable of reading a bar code in a mounted state when an article carrying the bar code passes and of reading bar codes set in array on a menu sheet in a hand-held state has been disclosed. The optical reader comprises a light source, a scanner that is driven by a drive and scans light emanating from the light source, a plurality of reflection mirrors that reflect scanning light scanned by the scanner and create a scanning pattern composed of a plurality of scan trajectories, a read window through which scanning light reflected from the reflection mirrors is emitted, and a light receiver for receiving light reflected from a mark. The optical reader further comprises a mode changer for changing a plurality of operation modes among which one or ones of the plurality of scan trajectories to be validated for reading are different. The operation modes include a specific scanning ray mode in which reading the mark by tracing only a given scan trajectory constituting the scanning pattern is validated but reading the mark by tracing the other scan trajectories is invalidated. For reading any of bar codes set in array on a menu sheet, the given scan trajectory constituting the scanning pattern will be drawn on a bar code to be read. Since reading by tracing the other scan trajectories is invalid, only the bar code to be read is read.

Optical reader applicable to plurality of uses

An optical reader which is compatible with every environment irrespective of installation and usage environments, thereby enabling uniform manufacturing, satisfactory reading reliance, and operative safety and user-friendliness. The optical unit is mounted on the stage, and there is provided an inclination apparatus which inclines the stage at a desired angle. Thereby, without changing a preset optimal scanning pattern, only its emitting direction becomes changeable freely.

A still image of a moving object is restored from portions including the object in an image by using a movement distance of the object during an exposure time and the difference value between output values of adjacent pixels, the movement distance being calculated as a number of pixels. Therefore, especially in cases where a moving bar code is imaged, even if the image of the bar code is blurred as a result of the movement of the bar code during imaging, a still image of the bar code in which the outlines of the black portions and white portions of the bar code are clear can be obtained. Accordingly, bar code information can be read out from the imaged bar code.

A scanning apparatus and an optical reading apparatus according to the invention is featured in obtaining reading result corresponding to a plurality of bar code symbols by processing, as predetermined, demodulated data corresponding to signal light from the bar code labels and optically readable symbols. Such a scanning apparatus extracts sets of consecutive data, which consecutively indicate all bar code symbols constituting the bar code symbols, from the demodulated data, and further chooses only sets of consecutive data that are different from each other, whereby reading data corresponding to a plurality of bar code symbols are collectively obtained. Furthermore, the optical reading apparatus collectively obtains the reading result corresponding to a plurality of symbols by extracting data that meets predetermined conditions and are different from each other, from the data obtained by demodulation.

The optical reader further includes a control unit to control a change from a multi-scanning mode to a single-scanning mode, wherein a plurality of scan trajectories in different fixed directions intersect at a center of the scan trajectories is validated in the multi-scanning mode, and wherein a scan trajectory in a single direction is validated in the single-scanning mode with invalidation of the plurality of scan trajectories of the multi-scanning mode.

Optical reader controlling operation between multi-scanning and single-scanning modes

A polygonal mirror unit having a base with a plurality of reflection surfaces. The polygonal mirror unit further includes a plurality of mirrors which have upper ends and lower ends and forms the reflection surfaces, a first base part having first grooves which receive the lower ends of the mirrors and first stoppers which push the mirrors towards an outside of the first base part, and a second base part having second grooves which receive the upper ends of the mirrors and second stoppers which push the mirrors towards an outside of the second base part.

An electronic apparatus including an apparatus body, a body-side connector, a cable-side connector capable of engaging the body-side connector and a connector housing provided in the apparatus body and having a space through which the cable-side connector can be guided from the outside so as to engage the body-side connector. A connector cover, detachably engaged with the apparatus body, is movable between an open position in which the connector cover can be removed and a closed position in which the connector housing is closed by the connector cover. The connector cover is provided with projections for preventing movement of the cable-side connector toward a disengaging direction thereof, to keep the cable-side connector engaged with the body-side connector in the closed position of the connector cover.
