An auto-ejector incorporated in a disk recording and/or reproducing apparatus is driven by a disk driving motor and a head driving motor which are requisite for the apparatus. That is, the ejector is triggered under the power of the head driving motor, and a disk cartridge in which a disk is accommodated is ejected under the power of the disk driving motor. Thus, any device, such as an electromagnetic device, a motor or the like used only for the ejector is not needed.

A disk-drive-compatible magnetic tape cartridge is provided with a tape guide for accurately positioning a magnetic tape in relation to a disk drive head. The tape guide includes a positioning section to be aligned with a rotation axis of a center core assembly when the center core assembly is chucked on a turntable of the disk drive. The tape guide also includes a guide section defining a tape run path across the disk drive head. The guide section is formed integrally with the section to be aligned with the center core assembly and so distanced from the latter as to accurately position the magnetic tape with respect to the disk drive head. Since the tape guide has the positioning section and guide section integrally, the distance therebetween can be maintained precisely constant. Therefore, tracking by the disk drive head becomes easier to allow high-density recording.

A magnetic tape cartridge is compatible with a disk drive, which comprises a cartridge casing defining a thin space, a pair of tape reels onto which a magnetic tape is wound and means for defining a path for the magnetic tape along which a portion of the tape is exposed at a location at which data can be transferred between the tape and the disk drive head. The tape reels are associated with a drive mechanism for selectively driving one of the tape reels for driving the tape between the tape reels. The drive mechanism includes a center core driven to rotate by means of a turntable. The drive mechanism further includes a power train including reel drive gears designed to drive associated tape reels and an input gear drivingly connected to the center core so as to be driven by the turntable. The input gear is associated with means for selectively meshing the input gear to one of the reel drive gears depending upon the direction of rotation of the center core.

An operating mode change-over apparatus in a tape recorder includes: a plunger-solenoid having a stationary iron core and a movable iron core movable from a first position in contact with, and a second position spaced from, the stationary iron core; an electric motor; a pinion driven by the electric motor; a rack engageable with and disengageable from the pinion; an operating mode change-over member driven by the rack; a locking lever driven by the movable iron core and holding the engaged condition of the rack and pinion; and a spring for pressing the movable iron core to the stationary iron core, wherein, while the movable iron core is pressed to the stationary iron core, the plunger-solenoid is energized, and the electric motor is driven.
