A passenger retaining apparatus includes a driver seat airbag and a curtain airbag. The curtain airbag includes first and second inflation portions and a recess portion. The first inflation portion is inflated at a passenger side with respect to the inflated driver seat airbag in a vehicle body longitudinal direction. The second inflation portion is inflated at a wind shield side with respect to the inflated driver seat airbag in the vehicle body longitudinal direction. The recess portion is formed between the first and second inflation portions to engage with the inflated driver seat airbag. The driver seat airbag retains a front surface of a head of the passenger and the first inflation portion retains a side surface of the head of the passenger.

Passenger retaining apparatus

A child seat has side walls on left and right sides of a squab portion thereof, and recessed portions for a seat belt passage, respectively. In case of a relatively large-sized infant, a seat belt installed in a vehicle and designed primarily for use by an adult is placed to extend across the squab portion. The seat belt passes through the recessed portions so as to extend closely with the infant's body to protect the infant. In case of a relatively small-sized infant, an impact shield is attached to the seat belt, so that the infant can be protected by the seat belt via the impact shield. Fitting members are fitted in the recessed portions to make the tops of the side walls flat when using the impact shield. The impact shield is stably placed on the side walls having the flat tops.

Child seat

A child seat is formed of a child seat main portion for holding a child having an engaging member, and a base on which the child seat main portion is detachably mounted. The base has a connecting portion to be connected to a vehicle, and a fixing member to be engageable with the engaging member of the child seat main portion. An engagement releasing member is installed in the base or the child seat main portion for releasing an engagement between the fixing member and the engaging member. Since the base can be connected to the vehicle without the child seat main portion, the child seat can be extremely simply fixed to the vehicle.

An apparatus for adjusting the fastening position of fastening means in a seat belt device includes a seat-portion body (7) provided with a belt guide (120) and a retaining spring (119). Ordinarily, the belt guide (120) is set in a non-use position at which the belt guide is engaged and retained by the retaining spring (119). When in use, the belt guide (120) is detached from the retaining spring (119), projected to the left and turned to insert projecting portions (120c), (120d) thereof into respective grooves (23), (24). As a result, the belt guide (120) assumes a state in which the guide portion (120a) is projected outwardly of the seat portion. When the guide portion (120a) is made to guide the vehicle seat belt (131), the portion at which a tongue (123) and buckle (124) are fastened together is offset from the corner of the protective seat (1), as a result of which the engagement between the tongue (123) and buckle (124) of the seat belt (131) is made more reliable.

Apparatus for adjusting fastening position of fastening means in seat

A buckle device for an infant restraining seat of the present invention includes: a frame member which has a base plate and side plates; an engaging member which is pivotally supported by supporting members formed in the side plates of the frame member and is capable of engaging a pair of tongue plates inserted into the buckle; and a blocking plate which is rotatably supported on the base plate of the frame member and has a blocking member for preventing the pivotal movement of the engaging member when the blocking plate rotates. When only one of the pair of tongue plates is inserted into the buckle, the blocking plate rotates by the insertion of the one of the tongue plates. The blocking member thereby prevents the pivotal movement of the engaging member so as to prevent engagement between the engaging member and the one of the tongue plates. Therefore, it can prevent the false latching between the tongue plates and the buckle.

Buckle device for infant restraining seat

An infant-restraining protective seat (1) includes a seat back (3) tiltably attached to the body (7) of a seat portion via a turning shaft (20), with the seat portion (2) and seat back (3) being foldable. A torsion spring (54) is interposed between the body (7) of he seat portion and the seat back (3). The torsion spring (54) is adapted to assume a free state when an upper hook pin (52) is at an .alpha. position. Under these conditions, the seat back (3) is capable of tilting forward to .beta. under its own weight. When the seat back 3 is tilted in the direction of .beta., shock is mitigated by the torsion spring (54). When the seat back (3) is tilted toward .gamma. and .delta., half-latching and play in the back-and-forth direction are prevented. When the infant-restraining protective seat (1) is not in use, the protective seat is folded up to reduce its size and can then be stored. The seat (1) can be carried about and set up on a vehicle seat much more easily. In addition, only a small amount of space is necessary for storage.

Restraining protective seat for infants

An infant-restraining protective seat (1) includes a seat portion (2) for seating an infant, a seat back (3) for supporting the back of the seated infant, and an infant seat belt device (5). The seat back (3) is tiltably attached to the seat portion (2) via a turning shaft (20) and the seat portion (2) and seat back (3) are foldable. Accordingly, when the infant-restraining protective seat (1) is not in use, the protective seat is folded up to reduce its size and can then be stored. The seat (1) can be carried about and set up on a vehicle seat much more easily. In addition, only a small amount of space is necessary for storage.

An infant-restraining protective seat includes an upper bracket (50) secured to a seat back. In order that a seat back (3) may be locked at any of three reclining angles, three locking holes (65), (66), (67) through which a locking pin (56) is passed are provided in a circular portion (50b) of the upper bracket on the circumference of a circle of a prescribed radius from the center of the circular portion. In order to lock the seat back at a folded position, the circular portion (50b) is provided with a locking hole (68), located on the same circumference as the locking holes (65), (66), (67), through which the locking pin (56) is passed. Each of the locking holes (65), (66), (67), (68) is elliptical in form, with the ellipse having a minor axis (f) and a major axis (b). In this case, the minor axis (f) is set to have a size that allows the locking pin (56) to be passed through and slid along the hole with almost no gap between the pin (55) and the walls of the hole. The locking holes (65) , (66) , (67) , (58) are so arranged that the minor axis (f) of each hole lies in the circumferential direction of a circle concentric with a hole (64) .

In an infant-restraining protective seat, a cover seat (98) is tiltably supported on a turning shaft (20) which tiltably supports a seat back (3) on a seat portion (2). When the cover seat (98) is at a position at which it closes a second recess of a seat-portion body (7), the cover seat (98) forms a seat surface on the upper side of the seat-portion body (7). When the cover seat (98) is at a position at which it opens the second recess (14), the operation for fastening and unfastening a tongue (123) and buckle (124) of a seat belt device installed in a vehicle seat, which operation is performed in the second recess (14), can be performed with ease from above the front of the protective seat (1).

An infant-restraining protective seat includes a shoulder-belt adjusting device (6) provided on a seat back. The shoulder-belt adjusting device (6) includes a belt guide (101) for guiding shoulder belts (5a) in such a manner that the position of the shoulder belts can be adjusted up or down, supporting means (102) for supporting the belt guide (101), a vertically extending screw shaft (103) for moving the supporting means (102) up and down, an operating knob (104) turnably attached to the left side wall (33) of the seat back (3), and a torque link (105) which connects the operating knob (104) and the screw shaft (103) while producing a right-angle change in direction, and which transmits the rotational torque of the operating knob (104) to the screw shaft (103). The lower end of the screw shaft (103) is supported so as to be capable of rotating in a state in which the shaft is supported in the thrust direction by means of a lower bracket ( 37).
