A facsimile machine includes a main telephone and a plurality of cordless telephones. The facsimile machine transmits telephone selection information to a caller. A voice recognition unit analyses the caller's verbal input to determine the caller's selection. Based on the determination by the voice recognition unit, a ringing command signal is transmitted to the cordless telephone selected by the caller. With this configuration, only the cordless telephone designated by the caller is rung. Because the user can select a cordless telephone verbally, anyone can accurately let a particular cordless telephone be rung without the need to perform complicated operations.

To minimize an occurrence of run-out of power in a battery in the middle of communication and an occurrence of a communication error caused thereby. The residual amount of power in the battery is detected. Communication is enabled only when the residual amount of power in the battery exceeds a predetermined amount. Information relative to the residual amount of power in the battery is displayed to allow an operator to recognize the residual amount of power in the battery. Further, information relative to the residual amount of power in the battery is transmitted to the transmission side so that information in excess of the residual amount of power in the battery on the receiving side is not transmitted to the receiving side.

A facsimile machine stores log information pertaining to facsimile transmission and reception in a facsimile RAM. To output a facsimile management report, log information items are read one by one from the RAM. It is then determined whether the read out log information meets a specific condition. Only log information which does not meet the specific condition is stored in a printer RAM and then printed by a printer. Thus, by taking a condition of log information not needed by the operator and inputting it as the specific condition, for example, log information not desired to be printed can be left out of the printing process.

In a facsimile machine having a random access memory for storing compressed image data received from a remote facsimile machine, there is provided a read-only memory in which stored are compressed sales presentation data and header information. The received compressed data and the compressed sales presentation data, both being encoded by the same format, are selectively decoded and printed. The printed presentation data contains a list of the functions and specification of the facsimile machine, for example. The presentation of the facsimile machine may be given vocally alone or in combination with the printed information.
