An angle adjustment mechanism includes an angle adjustment block including first opposing side faces inclined relative to the direction along the rotation axis of the turret; first and second adjustment blocks having inclined faces that are brought into surface contact with respective first opposing side faces, and movable in a direction along the rotation axis; a depression formed in a tool holder, and accommodates the angle adjustment block with the first and second adjustment blocks; first and second adjusters that move the first and second adjustment blocks in a direction along the rotation axis of the turret; and a first positioning member conducting positioning between the turret and the tool holder, and a second positioning member conducting positioning between the turret and the angle adjustment block. This configuration provides a mechanism for attaching a tool holder to a turret which can easily conduct highly precise angle adjustment.

A damping apparatus includes a contact roller provided to be rotatable about a rotation axis, a first support body by which the contact roller is rotatably supported, a second support body holding the first support body so that the rotation axis of the contact roller is parallel to an axis of a spindle, a drive mechanism driving the second support body to bring the contact roller into contact with a workpiece held by the spindle and to separate the contact roller from the workpiece, and a base supporting the second support body and the drive mechanism. A machine tool includes a tool spindle head for supporting a first side of a hob via an arbor, a turret, and a tool supporting unit including a movable section and a fixed section. The fixed section is fixedly mounted to the turret and slidably supporting the movable section. The movable section includes a support member for rotatably supporting a second side of the hob. The movable section further includes a first holding member holding the support member rotatably, second holding members holding the first holding member rotatably about an axis which extends perpendicularly to the rotation axis of the support member, and a slide member provided along the second holding members and fitted to a slide guide formed at the fixed section. When the tool supporting unit is positioned at a predetermined tool holding position, the movable section is capable of advancing and retreating in the Y-axis direction.

A machine tool is provided with a base, a tool rest and a boring bar magazine. The tool rest is mounted on the base and retains a boring bar. The tool rest is moved in a first direction in parallel with an axis of the main spindle and in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The magazine is located opposite to a headstock and stocks the boring bars and swivels and indexes the boring bar. The tool rest is moved whereby the boring bars are changed by other ones between the tool rest and the magazine. Thus, the tool rest is moved in at least two directions so that the boring bars are changed between the tool rest and the magazine.

A machine tool which can avoid interference between a tool post body and a second headstock without increasing the size of a fixed bed or decreasing the structural support rigidity is disclosed. Specifically, a combined-machining lathe comprises a first headstock fixed on a fixed bed; at least one of a tailstock and a second headstock is movably disposed on the fixed bed so as to be movable along the fixed bed; and a tool post body for rotationally supporting a turret having a plurality of tools set thereon. The tool post body is movably disposed between the first headstock and the at least one of a tailstock and a second headstock. The turret is placed on one side of the tool post body that is closer to the at least one of a tailstock and a second headstock, and the first headstock has a recessed portion that is dimensioned to accommodate the tool post body therein.

A C-axis driving system for machine tools is disclosed that comprises a worm wheel mounted on a spindle that is rotatably supported by a headstock. The C-axis driving system also includes a worm shaft with a worm formed therein directed perpendicular to an axis of the spindle and placed so as to be pivotable about a pivotal shaft between an engagement position, and a disengagement position. The C-axis driving system also includes a C-axis driving motor connected to the worm shaft and serving to rotationally index the spindle to a specified rotational angle. The pivotal shaft is provided on the worm shaft base so as to be directed perpendicular to an axis of the worm shaft. Thus, the C-axis driving system for machine tools is capable of reducing the size of the C-axis unit as well as the cost while allowing a smooth engagement with the worm wheel.
