A system for controlling torque distributed to front wheels and rear wheels of a motor vehicle comprises a planetary gear device including a first sun gear connected to an output shaft of a transmission, a carrier, first and second planetary pinions coupled with each other and rotatably supported on the carrier, and a second sun gear disposed between a front torque transmitting member and a rear torque transmitting member. The first planetary pinion is engaged with the first sun gear, and the second planetary pinion is engaged with the second sun gear. A fluid operated multiple-disk clutch is disposed between the carrier and the rear torque transmitting member so as to restrict the differential operation of the planetary gear device.

Torque distribution control system for a four-wheel drive motor vehicle

A control system for a motor vehicle provided with a continuously variable transmission and a clutch for transmitting power of an engine to the transmission. The transmission has a transmission ratio control valve having ports and a spool for controlling the transmission ratio. A throttle position sensor is provided for detecting the load on an engine and for deciding a desired transmission ratio in accordance with the load. The clutch is automatically disengaged at low vehicle speed. When an accelerator pedal is depressed in order to re-accelerate the vehicle, the desired transmission ratio is increased to increase the speed of a drive pulley of the transmission so that the drive pulley speed equals the speed of the engine.

The arithmetic circuit is so arranged as to cut off the clutch current when the engine speed decreases to a predetermined value which is slightly higher than an engine speed at which the engine stalls during shiftdown operation of the transmission.

The system is provided with a pressure oil operated clutch for transmitting the power of the engine to auxiliary driving wheels. The clutch is engaged by pressure oil supplied by a pressure oil circuit including a solenoid operated valve. An electric circuit comprising a control device is provided for energizing the solenoid. The control device operates to close the electric circuit in dependency on the slipping rate to energize the solenoid. The energization of the solenoid causes the clutch to engage, so that four-wheel driving power transmission system is established. A manual switch is provided for opening the electric circuit.

An automatic transmission for four-wheel drive automotive vehicles comprising a torque converter, an automatic transmission connected to a turbine shaft of the torque converter for transmitting the output of the engine to the front-wheel, a fluid operated clutch for transmitting the output to the rear-wheel, and a pressure oil control for operating the automatic transmission. The pressure oil control includes a pressure regulator valve to produce a line pressure according to the operational condition of the engine and a changeover valve for operating the clutch. The pressure oil control is so arranged that the line pressure is raised with increase of load of the engine, and the changeover valve is adapted to be manually operated actuated to operate the clutch by the raised line pressure and such that the automatic transmission is automatically changed to the four-wheel drive in accordance with the driving condition.

A control system for a belt-drive continuously variable transmission. The transmission is connected to a crankshaft of an engine through an electromagnetic powder clutch. The control system has a vacuum switch which is closed by rapid release of an accelerator pedal for producing engine braking effect, a gate circuit including a NOR gate, and an astable multivibrator. The NOR gate is opened for a short time decided by a time constant circuit, and the multivibrator supplies pulses through the NOR gate to a switching transistor provided in a circuit of the electromagnetic clutch for periodically opening the transistor during the opening of the NOR gate. Thus, the electromagnetic clutch is intermittently engaged for providing partial engagement of the clutch for the short time.

A system for controlling an electro-magnetic clutch of an internal combustion engine mounted on a car which is capable of controlling the clutch current after the gear-changing for providing the partial engagement of the clutch. The electro-magnetic clutch has a drive member secured to a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine, a driven member adjacent the drive member, which is coupled to a transmission of the car and a magnetizing coil provided in one of the members. A shift lever signal is provided during the operation of the shift lever of the transmission and an acceleration signal is provided according to the operation of the accelerator pedal of the car. A control circuit comprises a charging circuit operated by the shift lever signal, a standard voltage circuit responsive to the acceleration signal, and a comparator connected to the charging circuit and standard voltage circuit for producing an output signal for a period of time which is decided by the level of the acceleration signal. A gate circuit is operated by the output signal of the comparator for controlling the clutch current passing through the magnetizing coil.

A parking lock mechanism for a vehicle having a fluid operated clutch or electromagnetic clutch. A select lever is rotatably and axially slidably mounted on a shaft and a link mechanism is provided for transmitting the operation of a shift lever to the select lever for rotating and sliding it. In a transmission of the vehicle, a parking shifter rail provided for parking operation is connected to the select lever by a fork. An interlocking plate is provided to be moved together with the select lever to be engaged with the fork at a parking position of the select lever. A parking pawl is provided to be operatively engaged with the parking shifter rail, and a parking gear is provided in the transmission so as to be engaged with the parking pawl. When the shift lever is shifted to the parking position, the parking pawl is rotated by the movement of the parking shifter rail and engaged with the parking gear, and the interlocking plate engages with the fork for locking the parking shifter rail. Thus, the transmission system of the vehicle is locked by the parking pawl.

An automatic transmission for a four-wheel drive vehicle in which an oil pump is provided in a rear end portion of the automatic transmission for supplying pressure oil to the transmission. The output of the automatic transmission is transmitted to front wheels through a drive pinion engaged with an output gear of the transmission. A partition is secured to the rear end of the automatic transmission adjacent to the oil pump and an extension case is secured to the partition. A transfer drive shaft is connected to the driving pinion, and a fluid operated clutch is provided for operatively connecting the transfer drive shaft to rear wheels. The fluid operated clutch is operated by pressure oil supplied by the oil pump and the pressure oil is controlled by a pressure oil control device. The pressure oil control device is mounted on the partition and passages for supplying the pressure oil are formed in the partition and in a part of the transfer device.

A system for controlling an electro-magnetic clutch of an internal combustion engine mounted on a vehicle, which is capable of eliminating residual magnetism during operation of a shift lever of a transmission. The electro-magnetic clutch has a drive member secured to a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine, a magnetizing coil provided in the drive member and a driven member adjacent said drive member. A neutral switch is provided for detecting when the shift lever is in a neutral position and a shift lever switch is provided for producing a signal during operation of the shift lever for the transmission. Both signals of the neutral switch and the shift lever switch are fed to a control circuit. The control circuit is so arranged that the current flowing through the magnetizing coil is inverted in dependency on the output signals of the neutral switch and shift lever switch, so that the residual magnetism in the clutch may be eliminated.
