An electrochromic apparatus comprises a first electrode layer and a second electrode layer spaced from and disposed substantially parallel to the first electrode. An electrochromic layer is disposed between the first and second electrode layers. An electrolyte layer is disposed between the electrochromic layer and one of the electrode layers. The electrochromic layer comprises the dehydration reaction product of a hydrolyzed aromatic component. An electrochromic composition comprises an aromatic component having an aromatic core and at least two silicon-based groups pending from the aromatic core. The silicon-based groups have a silicon-bonded group selected from the group of hydrolyzable groups, hydrolyzates of hydrolyzable groups, and combinations thereof. The thickness of the electrochromic layer may be minimized while achieving desirable electrochromic properties that are typically characteristic of thicker electrochromic layers, thereby imparting the electrochromic apparatus with excellent versatility and flexibility.

A silicone composition comprising (A) a hydrolysis product prepared by reacting at least one thiophenyl-substituted silane and a cross-linking agent with water in the presence of an organic solvent to form an organic phase containing the hydrolysis product and an aqueous phase, and separating the organic phase from the aqueous phase, and (B) an organic solvent; and an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) containing a hole-transport/hole-injection layer comprising a cured polysiloxane prepared by applying the aforementioned silicone composition to form a film and curing the film.

The present invention provides an electrophosphorescent organic light-emitting diode (OLED). The electrophosphorescent OLED includes a substrate having a first opposing surface and a second opposing surface, a first electrode layer overlying the first opposing surface, and a light-emitting element overlying the first electrode layer. The light emitting element includes a hole injection layer and a phosphorescent emissive layer. The hole injection layer is formed of a crosslinked polysiloxane, which includes at least one siloxane unit R&#x2014;Y&#x2014;Si&#x3b8;3/2 having at least one aromatic amine group (R) and at least one divalent organic group (Y). The aromatic amine group includes at least one of a carbazolyl group, a substituted carbazolyl group, a triarylamine group, and a substituted triarylamine group.

The water-continuous emulsions of elastomeric polymers can be prepared by; (I) forming a premix that is essentially free of organic solvents comprising an elastomeric polymer and surfactant, and optionally a plasticizer and low molecular weight acid, and (II) adding water to the premix with mixing to form a water continuous emulsion of the elastomeric polymer having a solids content of greater than 75%, an average particle size less than 5 &#x3bc;m, and having sufficient stability to produce a stable lower solids emulsion upon dilution with water.

This invention relates to radiation curable compositions comprising an alkenyl ether functional polyisobutylene, a cationic photoinitiator, and a miscible reactive diluent selected from specified organic vinyl ether compounds, epoxy functional compounds, or compounds having the formula R X , wherein R is a non-silicon containing organic group, X is an organic group containing at-least one acrylate functional group, and b has a value of 1-3. A copolymer of isobutylene with 0.5 to 15 mole percent of a conjugated diene (i.e., a butyl rubber) is reacted with a silane having both an alkenyl group as well as at least two silicon-bonded hydrolyzable group, the reaction taking place in the presence of a free-radical generator, to provide a modified copolymer having reactive silyl groups grafted thereto. The modified copolymer exhibits a reduced molecular weight relative to the starting copolymer and may be used to formulate moisture-curable sealants, caulks, adhesive and coatings.
